Mines off in this weekend to get these codes sorted...
P0101
P023D
P0402
Main problem is black smoke on prompt acceleration and I can replicate an 'Engine system fault' message on the dashboard display when I put my foot down on the accelerator.
What should I be looking for the dealer to fix (I have checked the intercooler hose which appears ok).

D3 or D4?
I reckon your EGR valves are responsible

Sorry forgot to say 2006 D3.
What would you request from a dealer then - get them to blank them off or replace them?

I don't think a dealer would blank. Get a blanking kit and have a go yourself.
A replacement EGR will only go again. Blank it and it will never cause you a problem again

Is there much of a difference in cost between purchasing a blanking kit or having the EGR valve(s) replaced?

Right-hand EGR valve excessive flow detected, indicating it's sticking in the open position. The MAF and MAP DTCs are likely symptoms due to a correlation fault with the TPS.GAP IID Pro Multi Vehicle Defender L316 2007-2015 - Discovery 3 - Discovery 4 - Discovery Sport L550 - Freelander 2 - Range Rover Evoque L538 - Range Rover L322 - Range Rover L405 - Range Rover Sport L320 - Range Rover Sport L494 Electrical Fault Diagnostics

Blanking kit is about £20
A new EGR valve will only fail again.

They showed the the old intercooler. Covered in black gunge font and back and clearly a hole right through it.
Feels like a new car now. Certainly more responsive on acceleration now. Very pleased.
Now to see if there is a wire shorting as my front fog lights aren't working. From my Freelander days I know there is always something with these Land Rovers

Right proud of myself doing my own fault finding for this front fog light issue.
Open the fuse box up and hey presto. There isn't a fuse there (well relay).
Of course Halfrauds didn't have one in stock so I've ordered a couple (just in case I have a wiring short - me reads this site).
