Looks good.

Never seen glympse before ... Pity it is time limited, make a useful tracker otherwise.

@Tom: Enjoy your break, hope the dogs do too. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Hate to say it but perfect road trip weather. Wall to wall blue sky, gentle breeze to keep the bugs away and just nice temp. Bootiful. Mr. Green

Re Glympse time, it's better now, it used to be 4 hours max, now it's 12. SWMBO & I just use Find Friens on iPhones, otherwise known as Snoopy. Thumbs Up

Tucked up in a hotel in Kuhmo, possibly the only hotel in Kuhmo. This is the last hotel I have booked for the trip until the night before the ferry home from Gothenburg. In a moment of madness I cancelled the two nights I had booked in Ivalo for Wed & Thurs nights. It must have been the thoughts that it was too good to use a hotel, much better camping. So cancelled the booking.

Then the wind dropped and the bugs came out to play. Horseflies the size of small sparrows (I was going to say aircraft but that would have been a slight exaggeration), and mossies, and every other kind of fly. I'm now hoping the bad weather returns. Whistle Whistle Laughing

Anyway, ignoring the bugs it was a good bimble up the Via Karelia today. Most of it tarmac but quite a bit not so nice variation.

Tarmac bit, just imagine in the dirt for the non tarmac sections

Also a fair few tracks around the Winter War sites E of Kuhmo.

Somehow I don't think they wanted me to bimble into Russia. Shocked Shocked

Tomorrow is heading up to the wilderness area to the East of Lokka, lots and lots and lots of dirt roads up there. Hopefully fewer bugs. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Apart from the bugs. And the food prices!! They are good for the diet. Luckily stocked up with essentials in Poland. Mr. Green

You need to clean that windscreen mate. Too many bugs on it! Laughing

Great post.

Seeing somebody doing a road trip into remote areas in a D3 gives me more confidence in my purchase. How many miles are you planning?

Can't see my Wife wild camping though! Laughing

Enjoy the trip and thanks for posting.

Probably ~6k in shade under 3 weeks. I have had a technical issue though. The tounge & lever bit of the load cover got jammed. I brought my technological super powers to bear on the problem, well I levered the tongue but out with a butter knife. Normal service has been resumed but I have told the old girl to behave herself!

Great thread Del. Now I know why I kept my old D3, to go on trips like yours. I just need to sort out early retirement to make the time. Keep the updates going and glad to hear the gearbox and TC got sorted.

I was hoping that if the redundancy axe was falling I'd have chance of a summer road road trip solo across Europe but the bar stewards have given me an exit date of 30th December 😭

Excellent reporting from our Foreign Correspondent.

Although never done a trip like this, apart from a couple of jaunts through France, it has inspired me to try something like this.

Keep up the good work, when you have returned, may be useful for others like myself to maybe have a list of things to take and preparation.
