Never use jump leads that have exposed metal when closed. Otherwise you are just one slip, trip or mistake away from welding things together or something worse.
The heavy duty leads from Halfords are good, cheap and safe, but there are many other good leads to pick from.

I have got two sets of the Halfords up to 4.0 litre sets. They are brilliant. The clamps are very good on them and the copper used in the leads is flexible.
I have used them a few times (even wifey knows how to use them and approves) and they have always done the job even on large engines.
I bought these after another set I had from Halfords- similar to Dels, clamp broke up) which I had for over 10 years.
I think about £35 from Halfords but if you know anyone with a Halfords trade card you will be able to get them for about £27 / 28 .
A NOCO starter is an investment too - since mine bought used many times at work & rescuing others...
There are some good deals around on these....

I bought some from my local tool shop when I got my disco. 35mm2 4.5m with cast brass clips. They cost £70! I thought about it for an age, but eventually got em.
Now whenever I use em I'm proud as punch! They started my van from the disco effortlessly after having injectors and fuel rail out no revving at all. No heat build up.
