Is my gearbox or turbo about to go?! |
|
Hi all
I have a 2006 Disco 3 (EPR disconnected - this may be relevant) - recently we had a judder appear that got worse so took it to a garage recommended on here (which was fab) who said the "fix" from Landrover was to flush the oil through the gearbox which may need doing twice.....had it done once and judder disappeared - then came back slightly but not as bad.
Now noticed that intermittently, around 2000rpm, engine(?) makes a low "whooing" sound (that's a technical term btw!) and rom gauge fluctuates by about 250rpm - have previously been told a long time ago the turbo was going (5 years ago - it's still ok - I hope!) and now wondering if gearbox and/or turbo is about to stitch me up?!!
It's an automatic, and there are no other indications that anything is wrong - no smoke, no loss of power, no engine warning lights, doesn't seem to be burning more fuel etc......
Has anyone got any ideas on this please?
Thank you - and sorry if this has already been covered.....
Ems 😊

I agree - sounds like the TC - put in some Dr Trannies which may postpone the inevitable need to replace it.

Ok - this all sounds completely plausible to me (who is clearly not an expert in any way so thank you for this...) - the Dr Trannies stuff gets really good write ups so I will try and get this done this week....can you take it to somewhere for this to be done or do you have to do it yourself and if that's the case is it something I could do relatively easily or does it need special equipment like a ramp etc? Not completely adverse to the idea of doing myself but very aware that these Discos are nothing like the old tractor original we used to have which was easy to work on because it was a proper car!!
Currently in Morayshire for a month so can't get it in to my usual awesome Landy man - any recommendations for someone who could do this for me in this area? If not I have a guy down the road I could ask....
Sorry for all the questions - and thanks for the help....

Hi Emsey,
I know this comes out of the blue after such a long time but I was browsing through the threats trying to see if anything looks familiar to my threat the other day https://disco3.co.uk/forum/06-d3-potential...94084.html
Can I ask what was wrong in your case after all?
