Good news, inlaws were looking to buy us a sat nav for Christmas!!! Getting a 720T, I'll be buying it tomorrow so Christmas is early this year. Very nice screen mount job Claud, will be looking to mount the TomTom there & route the cables behind the facia. Will do some searches to see exampels later.

I was going to mount our Tom Tom in the centre part, but I was worried that it was easy to see it was a "removeable" unit and some little ****** might remove it and damage the rest of the car.
Do you cover it up when you leave it parked.

Just a thought but do any of the iPaq type PDAs that can run the TomTom software have TMC capability, either inbuilt or via the TomTom adaptor???
countrywide I intend just to have the mount visible and if I park in some area where I don't want it seen, I'll just pile up the usual cubby slot clutter a little higher to hide the mount!!

No, but if you have a compatible BT Phone, then they can get TMC data over GPRS using TomToms TRAFFIC subscription service.Darren Griffin

Had thought about that but worried about costs. I have a GPRS capable phone but on a long trip would have to dial in frequently if I wanted to keep track of what was going on ahead where as TMC keeps you reasonably up to date. I assume that the user dials in to say "please zap me data" then received said data?? I don't know what the cost of that (plus the annual subscription costs) would be and whether that is covered in a "normal" voice type mobile tarrif.

Costs depends on provider and subscription, the actual data retrieval is automatic and you choose how often you want to update, GPRs isn't a 'dial-up' service, it's an always ON connection wgere you pay only for the actual data downloaded.

If your on a contract with T-Mobile you can add unlimited GPRS for about £5 a month, on many pay as you go SIM's there is a capped fee i.e £1 a day etc.
I used to use the T-Mobile data plan, but the reception at our new offices was terrible so I had to swap to Orange, who don't seem to offer a low cost data plan.

Just bear in mind that for TomTom you need GPRS Internet, some PAYG Contracts only offer PAYG WAP.Darren Griffin

Use Tom Tom one EU myself Derek and found it caters to my simple needs.Traffic alerts were pretty good whilst travelling in the UK but useless over here ( Irl).TMC is updated via Bluetoothed GPRS link on the mobile.I haven't a scooby how much it costs for the data download.You can set it to auto update or manually do so when needed , which probably is cheaper.
Darren if you are reading this , have Tom Tom switched from Navtek ( sp?) to Telesat ( or something like that)?

TomTom have always been with TeleAtlas. They use Navteq for two of their devices (RIDER and ONE EU) simply to abide by a licensing deal.
Currently they have an offer to buy TeleAtlas, but Garmin have counter offered (Garmin are a Navteq customer but Navteq were recently bought out by Nokia) so the whole arena is very confused at the moment!Darren Griffin
