Discovery 4 Spare Wheel Winch New "anti-theft" model

Hi

My brand new Disco had the old standard spare wheel winch fitted, and the wheel is gone. The replacement winch is apparently a new part number labelled "anti-theft" on the LR parts system, introduced in November. It has a steel cup welded round the end of the cable asembly.

Does anyone else have the new one fitted, and does it stop the wheel getting nicked?

(Sorry if this is in the wrong place)

Thanks

when I got my RLD wheel protector from Uncle Ray, he advised me that it's been known for the scrotes to turn the wheel round and round until the cable snaps. can't see from your picture if this revised part would prevent that. it's only possible if there is a bit of slack in the cable ... so checking every few weeks should keep it safe.

I made a mod to the RLD protector ... http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic156797.html

Thanks

Given how insanely expensive the replacement is, before I put the new wheel back on, as well as the new winch I also ordered an RLD protector and Smartwater.

None of those stop the wheel getting spun. Others have suggested you can put a long bolt through the frame somewhere to stop that, but I haven't tried that yet.

my aim with the mod was to just introduce enough slippage between wheel and cable-end ... so it should avoid cable being twisted to breaking point. seemed to work when I tried it but obviously I'm not going to try it to the point I do the damage, where as the scum that do this are quite happy to do so.
