Hi All, I had the warning message "restricted performance" on my Disco 4 '59' plate, after investigation of a plug in, and then smoke test at R and E landrover (Salisbury) it was diagnosed as crack in the airtake manifold, which if you have searched the forum is a known issue with specifically early D4s. Thought id share with the forum what mine looked like, and what I was told by R and E landrover which did seem to all be true.
Looked at professional plastic weld repair but couldnt determine exact plastic type, nor do I think that it would have been able to do now seeing how large it actually was, and it was in 2 areas a crack along the smooth edge, and the seam had pulled away where 2 plastic parts meet, and the genuine replacement part is alledgedly stronger and more manly for the job.
I was told that the reason it happens is this side intake manifold (think drivers side) is where the turbo boost goes first so it takes the brunt of the pressure and its not man enough to take it. I have also been told that this has only happened to early D4s because later D4s pos 2012 on have upgraded plastic on the manifold, and not only that believe 2014 on only have 1 turbo which replaces the original design of 1 and a booster turbo.
Hope I have said correct info above as I am going on memory from a few months back, please correct me if wrong as reason I post this is to assist others that have the same problem in the future.
