Can you imagine buying a one of these D5's as a used car in 15 years time.

We see D3's for sale with a few extras not working. When you buy a used D5 with say 150k on the clock in years to come, you'll pay £5k for the car and have to spend another £10k to get everything working again Shocked

I'm all for technology but it's not like back street garages will be able to sort the issues, which I guess is what LR are probably trying to achieve and keep it in (the very expensive) house Whistle

Begs the question that the new base models will become tempting 2nd hand buys in the future.

Technology moves at an alarmingly fast pace

In 15 years it will be an antique & car collectors will be marvelling at its reliable simplicity.

Value will be that it's one of the last "drive yourself" car.

I disagree with that. The same things were said when the D3 came out, and just look what knowledge has been learned by this forum. Look at the tools you can now buy to help diagnose and configure your D3 and 4. I fully expect the same to be the case with the D5 in years to come.

Looking at some of the stories on hear regarding diagnosis by some mechanics out there on troublesome D'3s I'm not certain everyone will be able to keep pace with the technology.

The D5 makes the D¾ look and feel small.

I like it and have bought one, but i still have my old series to remind me what a true Land rover was at the very start...

You're right, I prefer the practicality and functionality of the D3. I didn't buy a D4 becuase it offered nothing more to me over the D3 so I though I'd wait for the D5. I went to the dealer event as a cash buyer and was so disapointed. For how mine is used, it just doesn't work for me. I'm not interested in all the wizz bangs so I took my cash and bought another two buy to lets.

I'm a developer so I spend a lot of time on site, I own over 20 rented properties and a children's business so I'm always moving and carrying stuff. My old bus works for a living but also doubles up as a family car and scrubs up remakably well, its also stupidly reliable. Unfortunatley the D5 doesn't work for me and a D4 only does the same job as mine so buying a newer one makes no sense.

All I want and need in a car are heated seats front and rear (preferebly cloth), heated screen, a decent radio, cruise control, a large flat expedition rack, ladder and a fixed towbar. My old bus fulfills that nicely, however, my needs will change in the next few years so I will go hybrid or electric.

I still don't get 'mood' lightling though. Laughing

Hi Russell, I see your going off road soon Very Happy

A quick question.

When set at Auto does Terrain Response 2 give a visual indication of what it's doing?

Looks fantastic, nice to be one of the early owners too, remember back to my first D3 and the looks/comments.

I presume you put a deposit down to secure this a long time ago??

Just sat in my friend's D5 ...

Wow ... just seen and sat in a D5 today for the first time. It is the first time I actually saw it in the flesh. I couldn't meet my friend soon enough to letch over it !

So she has a black metallic HSE with extras - screens in second row, mood lighting, tow bar, steps, privacy tints with grey perforated leather interior and a lovely grey wood trim. It also had a much bigger info screen than my D4. As she drove away in it it was much quieter.

They bought it off the dealers last week and picked it up on Wednesday. Must of been a cancelled order. Another had also just been sold while she was picking up hers. It seems a few had cancelled at last minute or dealers had a few to sell to passing trade.

It is a big car - even in black. You can't escape the fact that it is mahosive. We were in P so the car was lower, and it was easier to get in and out. However it didn't feel like it had as much head room as the D5 and it certainly felt like I was sitting in more a RRS than Discovery. This isn't a bad thing, just an observation. My Mr wasn't keen on a RRS for that very reason but I don't know what his problem was with it as I loved the driving position and I drive it most of the time !

Infotainment / Nav interface is a doddle and much easier to work around than the D4.

There didn't seem to be any extra space behind 3rd row than the D4. The boot entrance didn't seem as wide as the D4.

I really do think it is a beautiful piece of kit. But it does look like a scaled up version of an estate car because of the back end.

Would I have one ? Yes and no. There is a lot of new internal fixtures and fittings in that car that they haven't used in their other cars so I would like to see how it wears. I have driven a Disco Sport with 5k on the clock for a couple of days and I thought it seemed 'worn' so it'll be interesting to see how this first model wears. As a mum with muddy football, rugby, X-country loving kids and fox poo loving mutts it is a tiny bit too lux for me. I think the tech is brilliant though. This car will be a best seller Thumbs Up

I am definitely having new car envy BTW ! Been lurking on the D5 site and barely seen any new owners apart from the lovely Russell.

Seat folding

Hey Russell

Does the middle rear seat fold independently or is it a fixed 60:40 fold ?

Could you also take a picture to show us how the tow bar fits on

Thanks
