I can't see the government doing anything so severe as to completely undermine the products of one of the most successful businesses in the country.

I think the government has a tax and duty hike in its sights, but it will be gradual.

Personally I would love a petrol version, but I'm not sure the V6 suits the heavy car.

I'm sure it'll go well, but it looks quite thirsty.

I have the 3.0 petrol, in 'S' spec, (380 Hp) in my Jag, and it's very quick. However, it's about half the weight of a Disco. It's averaging about 27mpg in the Jag. It's got a lot of top end power, over 3000 rpm. Under 1500 rpm it's not so good.

No contest over here, where diesel currently costs €1.25 and petrol €1.35 per litre, and the road tax on the petrol D5 would be well over a thousand Euro a year...........

If fuel consumption is not an issue, and I can understand that at your sort of annual mileage it may not be, then my advice would be to buy the petrol engine that offers you the highest torque figure regardless of BHP. That is speaking as someone who caravans regularly and currently has 4 diesel vehicles sitting on the drive but used to pull our tintent with a 4.6 litre V8 FFRR Autobiography. If you can live with the fuel consumption a big torquey petrol is just so much more pleasant to drive than a diesel.

I have the 3.0 SC V6 petrol in my MY16 D4 (I live in Europe, where a petrol engine has always been available).

It's a great engine. Very smooth and quiet and more than capable of pulling a D4. It's lovely when bimbling around town and composed when cruising at speed on the autoroute. It climbs hills in the Alps with ease. It sounds a little harsher than the diesel when kicking down to overtake but it revs freely. The same engine in the Jag F Type is set up to sound more sporty; the LR engine is more reserved, with very little exhaust note. It's a peach.

Fuel economy is very reasonable for the size of the car, I think. Indicated range is about 600km when the tank is full IIRC, and i believe the tank is smaller in the petrol variant D4.

I would definitely buy this engine again!

Interesting. I never realised that the V6 petrol had been available in 3.0 in the T5. I thought that the 4.0 litre engine was the only choice.

Is it supercharged on your D4?

Even 'only living once', having a Disco sitting idle on a drive for most of the year is criminal, pass it here and I'll get some use out of it for ya Laughing

The government took away our diesel suv's. That's why I ordered a D5 TD6, it's the very last diesel available with low range transfer case in America under $70k.

Given all the publicity around diesels over here, perhaps that situation will reverse ?

I don't think that the Si6 is supercharged, or is it ?

Its not just what the Government has plans to do now that worries me, its the effect on the 2nd hand market if war is declared on diesels. You could buy one now and effectively it could be near worthless next year, as you can't drive it anywhere with out incurring huge cost, therefore nobody wants to buy one. It could take depreciation to a whole new level. Crying or Very sad

Hasn't Landrover just recently invested ££££'s in a new Diesel engine factory?
