I suggest that respect the views and opinions of others.
The D5 second row seats provide a great deal more space and comfort than the D3/4 in my view. That is one of the reasons that I have ordered one.
Winger....in your view....you've made your decision....I've made mine.....& many others will make thiers.
But I'm allowed to have a look, express my views if that's OK...if it isn't please tell me
Bully for you if you've ordered one...good luck.
Just think......if others don't or do like it or there were complimentary or uncomplimentary reviews it doesn't alter the actual product "the reality of the situation" - which for me wouldn't be a smart buy based on what I have seen & found out for myself......which validates my decision - fundamentally not based on any media reviews.
If you & other D5 owners or potential buyers don't like the discussion on here there is a simple solution - don't read it - after all there is a whole part of the forum dedicated to the D5 where presumably it will all be "sweetness & light" with not a controversial word uttered.
The title of this thread is about a "respected reviewer" - whoever the reviewer is he's got his views too, however writing about vehicles for a living is considerably different than buying one & using it in real life long term....as lots & lots do on here.
The stark reality is the rear 2nd row seats just won't accommodate my family members....no they aren't Cyril Smith sized or abnormally tall..... just normal sized adults well within the anthropometric norms. Simple as that.
So even the dazzle & bling....electronic gimmickry of the up to date Discovery 5..won't make my passengers more comfortable which is my 1st priority in having a vehicle like I have or considering any others. Simple but important decision that has long term implications.BREXIT - done properly.

When you have an opinion based on personal experience, then I will respect that. On conjecture? No!
I won't & don't have to buy one to discover that it won't suit my needs - hard facts.
I have just have to sit in it to sit in it or look at it to decide if I want one....not conjecture - hard fact
You've made your choice as an individual be happy with that.BREXIT - done properly.

Not before I've disclosed my solution to the um, problem. Already pre-ordered for whatever quarter the D5's decide to arrive here stateside.

Humor at the expense of taxi drivers everywhere aside, I will have my 6'4" brother-in-law take a crack at the back seat before I decide to purchase. The D5, not the beaded cushions.

Alternatively, if you have decided the D5 is not for you, you don't need to continue reading this part of the forum - there are masses of other D3/4 threads you can partake in positively. You appear to just write the same negative thing about the D5 anyway so why bother carrying on posting in here? Is it just a case of sour grapes or is it some hope that by constantly bleating on and on and on about how the seats aren't any good for your family perhaps LR will change the design? It's all rather boring. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Cooh! Bit touchy here then - can't understand why you all need to defend the D5 quite so strongly....... .

I read BLF's critic with an open mind. He has valid arguments for not buying a D5. It made me consider keeping mine on order or not. I choose to leave it on order, at least for now. I have no deposit so no commitment really.
I will not be using the rear seats for long distance travel, just the front two seats which are reviewed as very comfortable. At the very most, coworkers will ride back there for lunch trips during work week.
Long trips are just my daughter and I. Those trips I suspect the D5 will be more then adequate.
Last Sept I did an 8150 mile trip in 4 weeks on my Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited. I am replacing the Jeep with the D5 for more lux offroad.
