Good evening just had my discovery fail the mot on track rod end so have fitted a new pair and ball joints that fit in the steering rack counted the number of threads on the old ones then matched the new ones but the steering is all over so need the tracking setting so is it worth going the whole way and getting a full set up done on a hunter system or just go and get a standard tracking check and adjust at the local tyre fitters

Deffinately go for hunter 4 wheel, there's more knowledgeable people on here that will give you a darn good reason, but I had mine done after new bit fitted on front suspension and the difference was noticeable. Steering wheel spot in when driving straight (was a very small bit of horizontal and always bugged me) and car seemed quiter all round, guess it comes down to if you want to buy new set of tyres in a few months LED interior lights - CREE sidelights - DRL halo front fogs - Rear reflectors replaced with side/brake lights - Thinking about BAS remap

I don't think there is / should be any doubt - go the whole hog and get a hunter type four wheel alignment.

I've replaced loads of components that affect wheel alignment so waited to the whole job was complete before I had it done. During my travels last week I found myself next to a Kwik Fit........I asked the manager if he could perform a 4 wheel alignment on a D4 and with a certain amount of confidence he said yes Club Exped trailer

I then asked him if he'd done one before" done loads" he said. I handed over the keys and proceeded to get a brew from the free vend all the time looking at my motor on the wheel alignment ramp. Not 10 minutes later the "technician" starts taking the kit off all four wheels. I said to the manager that it mustn't have been that far out then "it was miles out, not even in the calibration zones" mmmm I think. What about the back I said, he hasn't touched them? "oh you want the backs doing as well?" You couldn't write it could you.
Car went back on the ramp and he had another go. Manager took it for a spin and proclaim everything was "spot on". I jumped in drove it round the block and brought it straight back as the steering wheel was 30 degrees out and the car was crabbing down the road like a good 'un. I said to him you can have one last go but if it's not right I'll be having a refund. I did ask again about his experience with a D4 and he again said the "technician" knew what he was doing. It was at that point I asked him why he hadn't clamped the wheel at the 12 o'clock position before any adjustments were made? After a lot of blushing and waffling another lad was brought in to the pantomime who did clamp the steering wheel and started the adjustments. Got the print out of the alignment and whilst the toe adjustment wasn't bad the caster and camber were all over the place. When I asked him why he hadn't sorted them his reply was priceless-"can't do castor or camber sir" Club Exped trailer

I had the 4 wheel geo from QF after replacing the front arms. They adjusted everything to get all the figures in the green, but it pulled to the left afterwards, took it back and they did some more adjusting, but it's still pulling to the left. Annoyingly, with the worn out control arm bushes it drove straight and true!
It's just so much hassle to keep taking it back. Simon.

Where in Essex are you?
I've used this place recently https://www.tyre-smart.com in Witham (after some bad experiences elsewhere).
They have the most up to date Hunter kit and they took great care to get everything right. I was very impressed.

JPW, how much did they charge in Witham? Did they re-calibrate the sensors too?

I think it cost about £50-60 (it was only a month ago but I'd need to find the paperwork to be certain).
What do you mean about sensors?

May give them a go. It says on their web site that they reset the Steering Angle Sensor and all the reasons why this is important. Just wondered if they did that for you and was it included in the cost?

Jetmech I replaced all arms and steering joints on my D4, then did a hunter 4 wheel alignment(which I do day in day out) and mine also pulls slightly to the left, have done it 4 times now and it still does it going to give it bed in time then do it again. Present

Trailhound - no they didn't reset the steering angle sensor, but I had no reason to suspect that it needed to be done.
I've had no problems with the car since they did the alignment (it was pulling left before) and the steering wheel is centralised - it really annoys me even if it's just slightly out.
