[Wanted] Cheap estate car 'workhorse' |
|
My lad looking for cheap estate type car as a 'van' for use in his house renovation.
Has to be a 'car' due to restrictions of entering council tips so he can't have a van (they even 'argue' with people in CDV's like Kangoo's and Berlingo's round here )
Budget is up to £1000, condition not important really but has to be roadworthy/MOT'd. Not bothered by make, engine size, fuel, etc.
Anything going with anyone?

2014 D4 HSE (Almost too bling)-GONE
2015 D4 HSE (A heated what?)-GONE
2016 D4 Landmark (Written Off)-GONE
2016 D4 Landmark (Surely the last!) PD1881 rims-GONE

Probably been looking at same cars
Problem is insurance. He's only 21 and his 4 years NCB is on his new Fiesta ST so, unless his insurance can do a deal on 2nd car he's really looking at Focus/Astra/207/Megane sized cars as big enough in estate form and smaller (and thus cheaper) engines

Conclusion was that V70 was too long for her parking space. Search have has changed to Berlingo, Kangoo type van conversion thingies. A bit tinny, but loads of practical space. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I pointed a few of them (Berlingo's, Kangoo's, etc.) out but there are issues at council tips in them round here and I think a young lad in workwear with a load of house renovation waste would create a ripple hence 'traditional' estate. We'll keep it as a spare family car when we locate one likely

Possibly - likely look a while longer for estates though as plenty out there but PM some details/pics and I'll pass on

The Peugeot Tepee arguably looks the most car like of the van conversions. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I wonder what taxi firm has just retired that Apparently "old chap has had it since new", at 20k per annum
Lad is struggling on insurance. His NCB is tied up on his Fiesta ST for obvious reasons. A new stand-alone policy on a 'typical Focus 1.6/1.8 estate' with zero NCB is around £1100 starting from scratch (interestingly with a black box was a couple of hundred MORE ) and even his own company adding it as a second car is around £800.
I've offered to help as I know he's not spunking his cash away, it's all being sunk into house (not a bad attitude for a 21 year old....) and he's not asked for bank-of-dad to help out as an automatic assumption but I think he's wondering if knocking on £2k is worth it really. Looking at some £500 territory motors (still some half decent stuff even at that price point) but I think he's not sure it's worth it with skips for disposal and home-delivery for much stuff.

Towbar on the ST and a trailer.
Then remove the towbar and sell the trailer when he's finished?
Or is it one where you need to cut the rear bumper to install one?
