It's something I have given a lot of thought to and discussed with some knowledgable people through SAE. Of course, if you offer an opinion on oil and engines in this place then all the self-appointed ones will chime in and we will be off in all sorts of directions!

Robbie, tell me the C3 stuff is OK for my D4. Would hate SWMBO to have to go back.
Also got a litre of this stuff which is also C3.

All I can say Del is that, in my opinion, C3 is totally fine for your D4.
I can go a little further and say that C3 is my preference for my own D4 and that I would rather use C3 than C1 in my D4 - especially as I tend to keep it for a good while yet. I also like to do oil changes every 6 months / 6k for the same reason.

So looking at specs,it seems other than the lower SAPS, there is a slight increase in viscosity with C3, both are suitable for high performance direct injection diesels and are suitable for extended service intervals.
I change mine every 5k anyway, but have been using C1, perhaps I could save a few quid and use C3

Isn't higher viscosity better, obviously within bounds, as "thin" oil is bad?

I'd be happy to pay a little more for C3 to avoid C1 so the price (especially this one) is a welcome bonus.
A few manufactures now warn against using C1, removing previous recommendations. I've also noticed that Opie Oils has a warning on their website regarding its suitability.
I wonder if JLR will update their recommendations given the engine failures (although C1 is already not approved for D4s outside of Europe)?
Still, a good offer from Tesco.

Bought 6 litres of C3 last night for £27 - good enough for Robbie is good enough for me Seemed weird putting through the self-serve tills whilst everyone else was putting through food Off to order a suction pump...Discovery 4 Landmark ‘16

Hi
suggested to swmbo we should have a run out today
had a look at a Mazda RX8 (possible option after the Scooby ) and picked up some oil as well
win win
other than the fact I now need a specific Oil cupboard to house all the different specs:-
RRS
Scooby
lawnmower
2sO
chainsaw

Not sure my advice adds much value!
I did the same but I maxed-out the scales at the self-service till so a man came over and did it all for me.

Lawnmowers and alike get whatever is left over from stock that feeds the cars. At the moment they dine off Magnatec A1 from D3 ownership. Overkill for small engines but surplus stock beats buying specific stuff.
