| Can't remove my detachable tow bar |
|
I'm upgrading my D3 to a D4 this weekend and want to take the detachable tow bar to new car (which doesn't have one). But the key won't turn in the lock of the tow bar, despite a thorough soaking of WD40. Any tips? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
have a search on here first before getting jiggy with a hammer 
many many posts all saying the same thing
and why not get a fixed type then you have an excuse for not taking it off

Sounds like you need, at least, a new lock.
A dealer will supply one (complete green handle bit) and will supply instructions for removal of old and fitting new one.
If you are unfortunate you might find the mechanism inside the tow-bar is seized up as well, which will mean dropping the spare wheel and hammering the retaining pin back into the tow-bar. The whole tow-bar may also be rusted in place and require persuasion to come out.

Took me 2 days of soaking with WD40 to get one off a D3 a while back, my lesson learnt for next time - don't keep on vehicle

I would soak it with WD40 as well, then some gentle persuasion with hammer will usually do the trick. My son had the same problem.

Plus gas works better and and sit on the floor behind and kick it with your heel, then from the side and then other side and again from directly behind, try not to break your ankle.
Worked for me and it was on for 7 years. Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Same, plenty of soaking and gently tap-tap back and forth with a lump hammer. A shapely pair of legs is one thing but a nice bum is not to be sniffed at.

I warmed mine slightly with a blow torch (being mindful of fragile electrics)
Then covered it in wd40 after, pretty much fell out after a couple of gentle taps

Take your car to Blue Water Shopping Centre.

Main tip is, be careful of any body parts that may be underneath the tow-bar when it suddenly drops out.
Be especially careful if lying on your back with part of your body under the vehicle and your waist area below the tow-bar...
