I got the major issue out of the way on the first LR I owned, my D3 needed a new engine after dying at the side of the road, just made a rattling noise then good night Vienna, but luckily all under warranty (2 months before expiry). It was in the dealer for 3 weeks in total.

Feel for you Ade and anyone else that has this issue but I think a lengthy mileage between oil changes is part of the problem, I know it's fsh as recommended but no doubt large quantities of oil in 200L drums to specification are used in main dealers as they are elsewhere in the trade to keep costs minimised.

5000 mile changes for me with "expensive" oil, doesn't seem so expensive if it prevents an event like this

If it has snapped the crank then it's probably spun a bearing in the journal and blocked the oil supply causing the friction that led to the failure, is that down to low oil viscosity causing the bearing to bind on the crank ?????

My Series 2a 2.25 seems ok, as does my TD5...... However, as has been shown elsewhere on the forum today, it can happen to other makes too......

Like Robbie says, it would be good to have more knowledge about the failure. Unlike the the 2.7 oil pump issue, there is nothing to check to provide any reassurance. All you can do is to drive and service it sympathetically, and hope that your not going to become the next victim.
