Be patient and don't order one of these first editions, they are a test bed of the new platform but power trains are old tech imho.

SWMBO drives a D4 with the 3.0 SC V6 petrol engine. It's great, and we will buy it again for the D5 without hesitation. I see that Scotia Grey and black pack is still available.
IMO the greatest disappointment about the D5 is the loss of the split tailgate. However, if the D4 to D5 upgrade is anything like the RRS to RRS2 upgrade, it is going to be awesome to drive.
I'm still watching for the Defender replacement, though. I think one of them plus a small electric runabout will be our choice in three to five years.MY91 110 CSW, so long ago I can barely remember it - sold

Well, i've been away for a few years and after anticipating the arrival of the new Discovery for some time i'm holding off on the first batch until Quality Control gets a grip with itself. As some of you will know i bought a Disco Sport when they first came out and will not be making that mistake all over again!
I agree with the above though, if the new Disco is anything like the Leap from RRS to RRS2 we are in for belter. I,ve been lurking on here and the Defender2 Forum keeping up to speed with the latest developments. There is some hesitation as there was when the D3 first surfaced and look how much we all loved that thing. I sold my D3 after spending thousands on it mechanically because i couldnt wait for the emperors new clothes and have been driving round in a VW T5 since i rejected the Disco Sport.
So between lurking here on the Diesel or Petrol thread i should be busy whilst im off work deciding which engine to plump for. At the minute im swaying towards Petrol.Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Cannot comment on petrol engine, although I'm tempted but hopefully Landrover have tested the "new" tech on the Range Rover Peter

No they are not - platform in use since FFRR launch

That's what i thought? I made the comment to a mate the other day who has ordered a D5 "Currently in an SVR" and he said i was talking "Rubbish" or words to that effect, he said that the D5 was basically a RRS / FFRR. and that the 3 vehicles would share the same assembly line.
After looking inside one the centre console / steering wheel look very Range Rover esque and i think the quality looks about right for a Disco? It certainly looked more comfy than my D3.Only dead fish go with the Flow !

If the Range Rover has precisely the same tech, engines, control systems, ECUs, and incontrol apps infotainment system then I take it back.

It looks like both diesels should be fine for some time as they are both EU6, and it sounds in this article JLR are banking on Adblue to address the Nox issues.
I do recall on of the earlier posts commenting that the v6 was so old it needed to rely on additives but the 4 cylinder Ingeniums also have Ad Blue and are brand new. Given VW's US breakthrough in emissions was basically to avoid additives and the extra manufacturing cost, we saw that did not go so well.
I have to say I don't really see the issue with the old engine, BMW, Audi and Mercedes have basically used the same fundamental diesels for the same time if not longer but with different states of tune, dual or single turbos, additives etc. I think the advantage is more to JLR (as Ingenium diesel vs the ford 2.2 was hardly a game changer). They get the advantage of their own in house build and costs rather than buying in. Some have even suggested iearly buyers should have it upgraded free of charge,but to be fair I ordered with my eyes open.
I am relaxed to have a reasonably proven engine and each iteration I had from the 2.7 in my RRS and Two D4's I am happy enough with the way it has improved and drives even if the numbers are far from class leading. I think an all new car and 1st generation new engine have been too much for me. I think early supply and demand will offset any reticence to having the old engine and I may stick an order in for 18-months or so as many new RRS owners did that and had a very low cost of change and see how the engine range evolves. I won't be keeping it long enough to be a problem with legislation.
To me the obvious thing they may add at the first facelift is the full TFT dash as well as hybrid and other engine options.

I ordered my first diesel ever in the new D5. But I only intend to lease it for a short time, hoping against hope that LR gets their act together and releases some sort of engine package more suited to the late 2010's in the near future.
I realized after placing my order that I'm going to have to abandon a few of my regular gas stations when the D5 arrives, as they don't even offer diesel. Such is the U.S.

If my 2016 Mustang 5.0 Petrol (now sold) is anything to go by then Petrol it is.
I have also had the 4.4V8 (BMW engined), 4.4V8, 4.2SC & 5.0SC Range Rovers and all drive better than the Diesels IMHO. The whole drive-train seems smoother due to reduced torsional vibration.
Also with so may cities planning Diesel bans long term residuals are going to be hit at some stage if everybody decides to they have to go petrol.
Finally Petrol is just so much nicer. Its cleaner, smells nicer and does not pool in a black stain on the garage floor and get all over your shoes.
Bring on Petrol (or Hybrid) everything.

Engines are one of the reasons i took my D5 deposit back. No hybrid for a start then i started negotiations and they couldn't order me a First Edition petrol so on top of my other reservations around its practical load carrying ability and size i walked away MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten
