Normal oil & coolant temperatures on a TDV6

Good day chaps,

A D3 owner in ZA has recently installed a Madman EMS to his D3, now on 240,000km, and this is the initial feedback:

Quote:
I have just driven to Somerset East from East London ambient temp 35 degrees C.

Speed generally 120klm and oil temp varied between 108-127 degrees on the Madman.

I was quite stressed as alarm went off at 116 degrees, but all the Disco dials were absolutely normal.

My question is quite simple - where should the parameters be set before the alarm triggers?

The coolant temp went up tp 102 at one stage otherwise it was under 100.

As there aren't any others running an EMS on the D3/D4, we are curious to find out if these readings are within normal operating limits?

Can anyone enlighten us about the engine oil & coolant temperatures under different conditions?

Thanks

no one?

I'm watching this video on oil, and if I understand this correctly, the engine oil temp should be between 100C & 115C in order for the oil to keep its operating temperature viscosity.

Beyond this point, the oil will not be at the 30 viscosity that your engine requires.

skip to 5:43 for the section on viscosity:

theres a thread with a couple of pages here:
http://disco3.co.uk/forum/topic128962.html

The rated viscosity is tested at 100deg C. Good quality synthetic oil with a good viscosity index will handle the higher heat without thinning as much - although the viscosity will still be reduced with higher heat. Another point is the oil life will degrade by oxidation twice as fast for each 10degC increase in temp
