Hold on though - the pump must be under warranty, and in any case it must be fit for purpose, regardless of whether it is genuine or not. If it's at fault, then the manufacturer should pay, and if the garage supplied it they should be dealing with it. Forget the genuine/non-genuine aspect - if it's faulty you're entitled to redress. That's what I thought. I said I would be happy to pay the extra to get a genuine LR pump.
But the Indy said I would have to chase the supplier for labour charge, I think he just doesn't wat to get involved, but in law, I was sure, it didn't work that way.

My point about genuine ie supplied by Land Rover was based on the fact they used to not only replace the failed warranty but fit it also.
You 100% right, if they have supplied the part where it came from is irrelevant, they should stand by it.IID PRO

I seem to recall that if you don't fit them properly the seal can leak. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

@shelley71 From your description of the fault, it sounds to me that the pump has not failed, but its the crankshaft oil seal that is leaking, if so the pump is fine and would just require a new seal.
The seal has to be put in with care, if not they will leak.
Apart from the seal around the pump and the crankshaft oil seal there is nowhere else the pump can leak from.
If the pump had failed I would be more worried about the oil flow or the lack of it. I have fitted hundreds of Oil Pumps now and had one failed and that was the due to the regulator valve being stuck, and two Oil seals that leaked.

I would agree with Flack.
The crankshaft seal is quite tricky to fit. I thought that I had followed all the instructions and advice, fitted it dry, made sure that it was correctly positioned, left it overnight before starting the engine, but I still have a leak. Luckily it's fairly minor, no drips on the drive and I didn't need to top up between oil changes, but even so it's annoying.Simon.

Thanks very much for that, I had a feeling it was incorrectly fitted.

Massive oil leak, apparently coming from the, as Indy explained, the little (I think he said plastic) pump thing on top, if that makes sense? He said he could replace the seal but I would be back in again in a few weeks.
As other have said it sounds to me like the oil seal had been fitted incorrectly. Having fitted one to a rrs not to long ago I know how hard they are to fit, we actually broke the first one so needed another 2009 Discovery 3 HSE - Gone

Thankfully all resolved now, wasn't a pleasant journey! But Indy ended up getting legal advice & found out he had to replace free of charge. I paid extra for genuine LR pump & it's all done now, hopefully this one won't be faulty!
Thanks for all the help though, very much appreciated
