I want to purchase a detachable tow bar for carrying a 4 bike rack. I intend to get a board to display my Reg, lights etc. Do I need to sort our electrics or is it just plug and play?
I've seen lots of mention to wiring looms for tow bars and I am unsure as to the purpose thereof.

If the electrics are not already fitted, then you'll need to wire in a loom. Takes about 30m, dead easy and is just plug and play Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders

So if I look under the car and see a 7/13 pin socket does that signify that the loom is in place?

Easiest sure way to check is to take off the cover in the rear bumper to see if you have the electrics could be 2 x 7 or 13 pin if original equipment. About ninth down on this link . It is unlikely to have the sockets & not be connected. http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic147488....rics+cover

... and assuming the plug(s) are present, just cosy up to any convenient trailer/caravan (with the right plug) that any friend/colleague/acquaintance might have, plug it in and see if it works.

Finally got around to taking the cover off today and there are no electrics in place.
I only want this to hang a light board when carrying bikes. Seems like a lot of overkill to remain legal but it's time to do some research in sourcing and fitting a wiring loom.

Advanced factors or Dan at duckworths are the best bet. Not much effort to fit Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders

Advanced factors cost £109 but I found this for £30 less. Is it what I need or is there a part/wire/adaptor missing?

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't have that one if you gave it me, it is using Scotch locks to cut into wiring loom and you need to be confidant with vehicle electrics to attempt it. . Much better to get one that plugs into the existing loom with a dedicated connector and it will be much easier to fit , the AF or LR one will just plug in. that's what you are paying the extra for.
