The 4 pot said to have comparable performance to outgoing D4 3.L V6 diesel.
The D5 V6 is latest generation engine.
You pays your money & make your choice
2.3.1 Efficient and powerful Sd4 diesel
The introduction of Land Rover’s award-winning Ingenium diesel engines ensures New Discovery offers highly competitive emissions.
The high output 240PS 2.0-litre diesel is for customers who demand performance while still enjoying the competitive running costs associated with the Ingenium engine family.
With 240PS and 500Nm of torque the new Sd4 powerplant delivers strong performance, powering New Discovery from 0-100km/h in 8.3 seconds (0-60mph in 8.0 seconds) – with comparable performance compared to the outgoing Discovery 3.0-litre V6 diesel. Despite this hike, the new four-cylinder unit provides competitive CO2 emissions of 171g/km and is capable of 43.5mpg.
The engine uses the latest-generation high-pressure common rail direct fuel injection operating at pressures of up to 2200 bar using solenoid injectors. It features a single turbocharger with variable nozzle turbine (VNT) technology and a high-efficiency water-cooled intercooler for superior engine responses.
This UK-built Ingenium powerplant brings new levels of diesel comfort to the Discovery family thanks to a range of advanced features. Dual-isolated engine mounts and further optimised transmission mounts combine with variable cam timing on the exhaust side and twin balancer shafts for the upmost refinement.
The advanced engine is the first Jaguar Land Rover powerplant to feature series sequential turbo technology to deliver its additional thrust.
2.3.2 Six-cylinder Td6 diesel
"New Discovery is also available with a powerful 258PS 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, badged Td6. The single-turbo engine features low-pressure exhaust recirculation, a two-stage oil pump and revised fuel-injector nozzle for improved responses, refinement and efficiency.
This latest generation powertrain achieves a seven per cent reduction in CO2 emissions over the previous 256PS Discovery TDV6; down from 203g/km to 189g/km, and is capable of up to 39.2mpg (7.2l/100 km).
The 258PS engine delivers stronger performance than before and the benchmark 0-100km/h sprint takes only 8.1 seconds (0-60mph in 7.7 seconds) – a reduction of 1.3 seconds. With a significant 600Nm of torque on offer, the new Td6 diesel delivers relaxed cruising refinement and towering all-terrain capability." Peter

I don't think comparing the D5 to the D4 is the right comparison. There was already another thread about this.
In terms of straight line performance and economy the D4 was literally way off the pace. The offset was transaction prices were reasonably low.
The D5 is a much more expensive car, especially assuming the lack of discounts.
The most comparable cars to the D5 are the XC90 and the Q7. For similar money to a 4 pot D5 you can have a 6 cylinder 278PS Q7 which does 0-100kmh in 6.5 seconds.
When a new car is launched you would normally compare its performance to competitors in the market that you might buy instead, not to the replaced car which may have been several years old.
The price gap between the 4 and 6 cylinder is very small. Unless you buy based on emissions there wouldn't seem to be much benefit to the small saving.
I have seen the car in person and really like it but am awaiting a better 6 cylinder engine.

I've just spent a day with the 180 bhp Ingenium engine in a Disco Sport
Are there people out there that are seriously considering paying to exchange their V6 D4 for an Ingenium powered D5?!!
One day, we may have no choice, but would anyone give up their V6 and volunteer for this? This engine would work very well in a Transit, but in something of this caliber?! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

For £1.5k extra, the V6 is worth it especially when most will be buying SE upwards.
I wasn't impressed with it in the Evoque loaner I had. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I've currently got the Jag XR R Sport 180ps loaner on test, nice car over all but I cant say I'm overly impressed with the Ingenium engine. I just cant see how this will transfer over to the D5 and work adaquately, press it and it propels the Jag along nicely but its not what I'd call refined and neither is it quiet (but is that just because i've just come out of a SDV6?). There are 10 types of people in this world ~ those that understand binary and those that don't.

As has already been said, for the school run mums and the city centre trendy types, the Ingenium will be all they want/need. The £1500 saving on the V6 will be spent on bling wheels. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

The ingenium 2.0 litre diesel is or may be in its developments...
It will never be better than a larger displacement V6 or straight six....
On paper it shows the dynamometer figures....
Where it counts is the 3rd lane of the motorway when you need the power to accelerate, when you have a laden trailer attached on a challenging road, or a fully laden vehicle with a full compliment of passengers or cargo....
The laws of physics prevent that....you can only get so much from a given engine cc....smaller engines revving thier balls off can produce figures that can be compared to anything.
2.0 litres on a vehicle D5 size may suffice toodling around town on the school run or Sainsbury's car park but realistically on more challenging duties are a distinct liability.
The yummy mummy contingent would hardly ever know the difference & to tell you the truth I'm not that bothered that LandRover are pandering to thier needs BREXIT - done properly.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Makes a lot of sense
3.0 snaps crank so opt for a smaller engine ?

2.7/3.0 are made by PSA. Both guilty of spun bearings and snapped cranks
2.2 (Freelander 2) is also made by PSA. How often do you hear of them lunching themselves? My D3 Build Thread

How many are there & what's the cause if this ?
Misuse ?.....I would like to see what misuses actually cause a crankshaft to break....maybe the ingestion of water....
A manufacturing issue ?
A materials issue ?
or
Maybe a design issue ?
But to my humble thoughts the 2.0 ingenium is the economy engine......ersatz solution to a real problem
It manages in vehicles of less mass & lower expectations - just BREXIT - done properly.

I was under the impression you meant the 4 pot D5 and I believe the current iteration of the engine has crankshaft problems , why would the freelander 2 engine be in a D5 ?
Edit freelander is not 3 ton plus either
