Picked up new ( to me) disco yesterday
It's a MY16 and has a full size spare
It seems to have a cover over it , plastic by the looks of it

I lowered my spare today to take a look at the protector and I did think it was ok, as you can lower it onto the floor, unhook the chain and drag it out on the plastic cover, lot easier than without the cover.
As for the strength and safety, well I don't see dozens off disco spare wheels strewn all over the motorway, so it must be ok
You don't tend find thieving b s with wire cutters under moving vehicles IMHO Paul.

think you might have missed the point..the protector is to stop it being stolen....which MANY have been..
agree the plastic will protect it whilst you drag it out from under.

The plastic one only protects the face of the alloy wheel as they are mounted upside down on the later models due to the ad blue tank. It won't stop the thieving scrots from nicking your nice new alloy and tyre.
You need one of Uncle Rays new designs to stop them nicking it, very easy to fit. It only takes 10 minutes and half of that time is winching the the wheel up and down

Yep, +1 for uncle ray. I've just fitted one too.
The thieving fits put bolt cutters through the gaps and cut the winch cable. That costs you a new winch and wheel....Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders
