My point is it is done and dusted ...it will sell like hotcakes .....there's no point in destroying your own brain cells moaning about it 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
Wait till the D5 comes & the value of 2016 D4's plummets & buy a used one
Or possibly a FFRR....usedBREXIT - done properly.

D4 values won't plummet.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
Bets on that...
your out of the showroom Disco loses value dramatically - nearly all cars do (the exceptions being really new model cars that are on long delivery....some are prepared to pay a premium just to have one - daft but true especially true on premium vehicles. Even with lots of add-ons.
Conversely - Old outgoing model values always take a big hit when the "new" one arrives...
Get maybe into a 10 months or a year into the new model, the waiting list isn't that long, people just aren't paying the over list price premium to get one, lots changing perfectly good low miles old models for the new one....the trade-ins are abysmal.
Fact of life....this is how dealers make real money & where almost new low miles cars, in showroom condition can be bought......dealers get gluts of them. So if your not that bothered about the new model, exceptional cars can be had.BREXIT - done properly.

Agree that's the normal scenario for car depreciation but Landrover have created a weird situation with the defender replacement delays. Even my dealer says late d4s will be worth a premium when the D5 comes out, they already offered me an above book price for mine at 6 months old as he had a buyer.
If what people are saying here about the D5 is true and its going to be too posh, too much money and not enough practicality then the D4 will be in strong demand. No defender and no utilitarian disco will force prices of used D4s up as people start trying to snap up late models.

Morning just a Bit of info the stealer I work for took 3-5000 off the display prices of most of our d4s as demand is low and there's oversupply we have a lot in stock at the moment a dealer may may pay extra for a car with a specific colour or spec if he has a customer for it. We have been pre registering d4s since Feb so more supply than demand

You believe a dealer, that's a first!
I can understand people wanting to believe that their purchase isn't money down the drain, but no matter what, you bought a car, you didn't make an investment. 99.9% of cars loose significant amounts of money no matter what, it's a fact of life.
Sure your going to get dealers offering what may appear to be good money for you car, but they ain't a charity, there will be something, somewhere for them to skim off the top, who pays for their glamorous showrooms and God knows LR showrooms are plush, pays the staff etc? They aren't going to do that acting like a food bank.
Basically, the D4 is the outgoing model, good for its day, but like most bits of technology, outdated pretty quick. There are also plenty of inherent faults in the car, be it the ultra slow SatNav that lets you do your knitting whilst waiting for it to work or the Cranshaft sensor that relishes screwing up either when your on the motorway or at a busy junction. Anyway, you find the majority of the Disco buying public, apart from a few on specialist sites like this, want the latest gizmo, be it LR or any other make.
It's a case of out with the old, in with the new and the prices reflect this. You've been given the last of the D4 run out cars at a very good price, don't expect they will maintain that price when trading in because the last of the D4's is desirable, simple economics is they won't. We've seen this happen before with JLR, Freelander run outs offered at discount prices, even zero per cent loans.
So whilst make the most of the D4 discounts, don't be under any illusion your cars value will stay the same, increase in value or loose a little, it won't happen unfortunately, it's not the way the world works.

No one buys these cars as an investment but if you’re buying cars to service a business, your capital expense is simply what you paid minus what you get back when you sell it. I do about 25k per year and usually keep my cars for 5 years.
So the big question…. is a D5 that cost £60k+ going to be worth significant more than a fully loaded D4 when they’re both five years old with 125,000 miles on ?
We don’t know, but being able to buy a brand new D4 HSE Lux for £49k is certainly a lot of car for the money. It’s also a spec (including 6 cylinders) that I probably can’t even afford on a D5 anyway… 2005 D3 HSE 2011 D4 Landmark 2016 D4 HSE Lux
