Part number for tailgate release switch
Hi,
How can I find part number for the switch under rubber cover on upper tailgate? I don't mean the micro switch here but the metal part which presses on it when someone presses the rubber.
I will appreciate if anyone could help.
Cheers

I think you have to buy the complete handle on the d3! I'm sure someone else will be along to confirm I've got it wrong! D3 x2 now gone

Just order a RRS switch for £20 much cheaper than the full handle for a Disco3.
You will need to cut the plug off and solder it onto your handle.

Thank you for all the replies. I've ordered the RRS switch.
Just replaced the same switch, found that the Ford focus is the same switch bought form flee bay new £12.99, came today made in china works perfect. The plate that works the small micro switch is made from steel & not the rubbish alloy plate that's in the L/R one so will last longer. I just cut and soldered the two wires re-fitted it bingo.
Someone may already have done this but thought I would let you al know anyway

wullie mine is on its way sprayed it with WD40 but it sticks now & then and then won't open how easy is it to get the old switch out? How did you do that?
Hi
If you can still open it, open tail gate remove 4off torx screws on lower lip below handle ( these screws might be rusted or the inserts might turn if this happens they need to be drilled out). you then need to get to the 3off 10mm nuts behind the plastic panel (behind the handle) I didn't remove the panel just pulled the corner of it down tight but possible, remove these nuts disconnect the wiring plug then pull the handle off. Once off there are two small screws that hold the outer cover on + 4off clips you need to prise up gently then pull outer cover off. this lets you into the two grey plastic lugs to pop handle out. cut the two black wires solder new switch wires on and use shrink wrap to keep tidy.
PS, Im not sure if the older disco's have the 3off 10 mm nuts mines did it's a 2009.
Wished I had taken some pics of this but maybe someone else has in the forum.
NOW* that's the way I done it because I was investigating, Knowing what's in there now I would pull the rubber part off and if you look into the grey plastic switch you will see the lugs that hold it in place left & right, using two small screwdrivers plunk the lugs the switch should pull out, you could cut wires from there, I would try it that way first nothing to loose mate. Hope that makes sense but please ask if your not sure.
Note; lug arrowed one each side.

Yes, the earlier D3's do have the 3 nuts behind the trim panel to also take out.
You probably wont have to drill out the torqs screws if the inserts spin. Once spinning, you can pull the handle body off and leave the screws and inserts in place. I had two spinners and they just pushed back into the handle upon refitting.

You don't have to remove the handle, to replace the switch My D3 Build Thread
Thanks for this thread giys, looks like you've saved me a packet by showing me I don't need the whole thing, just the £12 eBay purchase LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
