Passenger Seat electrics failed - Help seat stuck

Hi All

Latest fun with my D3 - my passenger seat back has stopped adjusting and stuck in a back breaking forward angle. I took it to my local dealer they had a quick look managed to get moved a little but said it looks like a switch issue as the seat motor still works for the base moving back and forth. I would like to first take the base off just to make sure it's not a loose / broken wire - first question can the seat base be removed without taking the seat out and risking setting airbags off etc..? Also has anyone one else had similar experience and had to replace the seat switches on the side - is it a simple unit to replace or best left to the dealer..? Any help would be greatly appreciated by me and my passenger who's back is starting to play up due to my seats..!

Best regards

Southcoast

Thanks G

Probably stupid question - can you take the base off the seat itself or do you mean you take entire seat out..?

Cheers

Taking the whole seat out is easier. It's just held in by the 4 bolts.

If I take the seat out - is there any risk to the airbags etc..?

Let the car go to sleep, disconnect the battery, then undo the 4 bolts, tip the seat backwards so you can get to the big connector block underneath and disconnect it.

Do it like that, then there is zero risk to the airbags. Make sure you are gentle with that connector block, if it gets damaged in any way (or the wires in and out get pulled too hard) you may end up with the airbag warning light on the dash.
