OMG, I have only just stopped getting hassle over the Mantec plate.
However, I wouldn't mind a pair of 170's on bumper mounts and two pairs of 140's on the expo rack!
In day to day use ( I suppose that should be night to night use) is there really a huge difference between the 140's, 170's and 240's?
I found the towbar electrics easy to install but my DIY skills around the house tend to involve vast quantities of Blutack, No More Nails and beer. Is DIY installation for the average forum member realistic?

All,
forgive me if I ask the obvious...
I would be intereted by a pair of 170 or 240's but I need to know how their usage is regulated under UK or European law...
when can a driver switch these lights on?
are they likely to dazzle a drive coming from the opposite direction? do you have to dip / switch them off in that case?
can you use them when driving in Europe?

I stand to be corrected, but all I can see regarding extra lighting is that it shouldn't dazzle other road users. This is left up to the officer who stops you, I suppose - LF's probably will dazzle other road users, so they're not really suited for road use except when using main beam?
There is no regulation I can see for maximum brightness (ie 55W) or preventing you mounting on the roof - except more likely to dazzle. Disco 5 HSE Lux

I'll post some pics of my rack mounts later, as I've been asked by a couple of other people anyway. The wiring's not difficult (says the electrician ), but TFC's wiring mine up for me My wiring will be routed up via the rear door, with a plug/socket by the rear pillar so that the rack can be removed with the wiring out of sight. Hang on chaps .... there are "construction and use" regs relating to this ...ISTR that lighting over 55 or 60watts is the very maximum permitted on road. I will check it out this arvo 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

DG is right about the C&U regs, they do limit wattage and I believe that all aux lights have to be switched (TFC to confirm?)
In addition, EU laws state that no lights over 2 meters from the ground may be used (yes, wagons are technically in breach) on public highways, ISTR.
C&U stuff is what you are likely to be stopped by plod or VOSA. The M-Power Express

Blue light lenses are only a problem if you illuminate them on a public highway ....but Ken for example is prevented ( ) from using his lightforce lights on the road anyway because they are 100 watt. which is illegal 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
