He wasn't 100% sure if there is a pull out platform or not as they didn't see this demonstrated.
I have been told there will be a multi-use platform whatever that means. Person who saw it said it was a clever bit of kit that actually fills a couple of uses.

Would you prefer one new D5 parked outside your house or 5 fairly low mileage D3's?

I would suggest that he is referring to the underpinnings of the chassis.... By common use of parts across the F pace, D5, RRS and DS allows huge cost savings and maximum profit.... Normally they would be referring to floor pans, axles etc whereby the running gear is similar but with the cosmetic bodywork making each vehicle look individual. ( think Cayenne and Toureg, Saab and Vauxhall, Renault and Nissan...)
If you look at my RRS many many components are carried over from both Jaguar and L405...
JLR have definately stamped the corporate look now across the range.....the new D5 is no different and lots of styling ques have been nicked from the RRS..... I think unfortunately that as a result it will lose a lot of its practicality!
My RRS is a stunning machine but when compared to the D4 there are a lot of compromises in relation to practical load carrying and interior space design..... In fact the D4 also lost it over the D3 which was a far more family orientated machine!

+1
Agree totally. D3 was the most usable design - but had its flaws in the mechanical department. RRS has been flawless so far mechanically (other than a broken spring on the electric towbar -cost ?10p - that required replacement of the entire towbar - cost £1000). RRS is for driver fun though - still use the shogun for actually carrying things.....
D5 has to be more practical to get my money. The new XC90 will give it a good run for its money in terms of space and practicality - tow capacity at 2.7T may limit it though. However it does have a good 3rd row of seats now and still some boot space with them up.

I was dubious about just a 2.0 but it is good, it's really quiet and on the motorway it's not constantly changing gear if you accelerate, just pulls away, Sheffield to Cardiff got 42mpg last weekend. I have had my ifor Williams on but no real weight in it, tbh couldn't see much difference in the way it pulled than the disco was.

You must have a good one... the turbo lag on the demo one I used for a week drove me mad, especially at busy junctions. There's always a price for small engine big turbo!
I really wanted to like the XC90... even got all my extras sorted with the dealer and loved the R-Design. In the end my work kit wouldn't fit in the back. It's that sloping tailgate issue that I fear may effect the new D5 too? At this rate I'm going to end up with a VW Caravelle or even a Transit Custom Crew cab !!!

It will be hard for me to walk away from LR, I've used the same dealer/salesman for almost 10 years. I was joking with him saying it will be my 10th anniversary as a customer, he said I'm sure we can work out a nice deal on a D5. I might hold him to that
I used the XC90 as a bargaining tool when I realised my error buying the DS, ended up giving pretty much what I paid for the DS and they sold it for a grand less. Might use the F-Pace for D5 negotiations 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
