Death of another 2.7 (fun poll attached)

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today, to mourn the passing of another member of our flock. The humble Lion 2.7, whilst advanced in age at 221,000kms, was known to be in rude health, having been given the benefit of new genuine belts and oil pump in March 2014.

Previously living at the following address:

She loved a full and happy life.

She approached her end with dignity, immediately following a heavy stab of the loud pedal whilst climbing a steep hill. Death came quietly, merely cutting out and coasting onto a grass verge, having manfully made it to the top of the hill. Attempts to revive her were very noisy, signs of a grevious internal struggle.

The exact manner of her passing is not yet known, with an autopsy yet to be conducted. However, members of the congregation may wish to indulge in the speculative poll to perhaps allow the grieving to start.

No flowers.

Ah, not so Brother DSL, for she, and her home, had previously been inhabitants of the arid South Australian interior, moving to the more tropical Queensland only in the twilight of her days. Rust is less of a common illness here.

Well, dinner and a drinkypoo or two have been had in her honour, and I have been out to start the strip down.

It's late, and the mozzies are biting, so didn't want to hang around outside (tow truck driver dumped it partway down the drive) too long.

Viscous fan and shrouds are off, and have loosened the timing belt cover. Belt is intact and tight, so option 1 is wrong. However, it's not rotating when the starter is flicked. Curious.

May need a couple more options. Snapped crank? Sheared crank bolt?

Will carry on in daylight tomorrow

Collection welcomed, however, there are limits on what you can take on the major airlines as hand luggage. Laughing

But amazing what can be squeezed in a hard skinned Samsonite in the hold, especially when combined with a bribe to the check in bod. Mr. Green

It's funny you should say that DSL, seeing as a couple of weeks ago I flew 3 hours to pick up 45kg of brake disks and pads and a couple of other bits, as it was cheaper than a courier. Whistle

If it's not rotating, then snapped crank has to be the one. Thumbs Up

So sad to RIP, however, like a Phoenix from the flames, I suspect that this isn't the end of the road for this beast. Thumbs Up

OR
As Mrs Thatcher said ''Every Prime Minister needs a Willy.''

She was, of course, referring to Willy Whitelaw, who she had sent to tour the country stirring up apathy and indifference.

Well we have discovered the reason behind the engine failure. Not the exact failure mode, just the reason.

It was karma.

Last week I looked at a D4, and she knew. She threw a hissy fit and died, because she thought I was going to sneak off with a newer model. But I didn't. I remained faithful, and this is how she repays me Big Cry

(It was a very nice D4 with some storm damage, but when I mentioned it to SWMBO, I was told "no". Well what she actually said was "YOUBRINGANOTHERBLOODYPROJECTHOMEANDI'LLNAILYOURBALLSTOTHEWALL". Which I translated into meaning she wasn't overly fond of the idea, but may warm up to it later)
