You've got a point there. That sounds like a lot more (quite serious) compromises than having to live with an imperfect glovebox and needing to replace the boot release mechanism once every 100,000 miles, especially when the OP says that the D4 is the best car he's ever owned.

I've only run 4 cars from new to beyond 100,000 miles before (apart from one Montego estate, that simply dissolved into a small pile of iron oxide!) and do you know what? Nothing happened They kept running just fine
