Rotary gear selector gets warm sometimes.

Hi everyone

I've noticed that the rotary gear selector feels warm after I've been driving for around an hour in traffic. Max speed around 40mph on normal roads, so admittedly, there would have been a lot of automatic gear changes during this hour. The car appears to drive and change gear perfectly normally.

Is it normal for the selector to get warm? Am I being paranoid? Or is this a sign of something that I ought to look into?

Many thanks,

My stick shift auto will get slightly warm after leaving it for a few mins after a long drive, but is usually cool to the touch at other times - I wouldn't worry

It's never happened on my 16MY car, but I've heard others report it, with no ill effects Thumbs Up

It's happened on my MY15. In fact the knob got very warm albeit after 10 hours cruising up from the Alps. No ill effects that I could spot apart from toasted fingers.
