Used Garmin and Fugawi today in the new 110. Both were running separately on two different PCs. Basic route was Pembridge to Peterborough to Mansfield then back to Pembridge.
Garmin + very simple to use entering positions and navigating to them.
Garmin - lacking detail.
Fugawi + astounding detail
Fugawi - complicated to find locations complicated to enter locations complicated to navigate to waypoints.
The big question is.... Is Fugawi a Navigation Tool like the Garmin or a very good Mapping Tool that has basic Navigation included.
Clearly I need training on how to use Fugawi In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I have never used the Garmin software. I have a Garmin Etrex hand held GPS, and to be honest, it is the easiest way to get to a point on the planet. Just follow the arrow.
The problem is, when you cant follow the arrow because the road or track does not go the same way, then systems like Fugawi take over with the topo and road detail you need.
For all the software and gps technology, I still like driving with a good old paper os map at my side.
If its any consolation, I too am finding Fugawi a little difficult to comprehend, but I am determined to use it.

Aha!!! you drag the waypoints into the route window  Thats the bit I've been missing!.
Are you doing a Fugawi class on saturday Iain?

Yep got that So how do you Navigate to your Waypoints/Route  or am I still missing the Wood because of the Trees  In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

waypoints turn into route open nav window select / find the route you want and hey presto
the bit to get right is the ddd mmm stuff

Fugawi Anquet, Memory-Map and a few others are all Topographical navigation solutions, they require a route to be pre-planned and input. The cannot calculate a route between tow different locations in the way that an automotive GPS can.
Personally I find Memory-Map the easier to use but Fugawi is a competent solution. Darren Griffin

I really like Memory-Map and TomTom, and also a great shareware tool called GarTrip that I've been using for years.
But I don't get the satisfaction of being able to say "Where the Fugawi?" from any of them  Dr. Ian Malcolm:
