Thanks Darren,
Appreciate the advice. I am not going the whole hog for a total D4 look, I will be changing the grille and the head/side light units, but that's as far as I want to go. I just prefer the look of a more modern light unit to the original D3 ones. Thanks,
Adam

In that case, the D3 bi-xenons are your only choice.Darren

If you have got halogens, then the easiest upgrade is to the D3 bi-xenon units. A very worthwhile upgrade in terms of performance. They can typically be had 2nd hand for about £200.
If you particularly want the D4 look, then it can be done but is more involved, requiring new bumper, grill and alterations to the wings. The details are on here somewhere, if you do a search.
If you just want an economic performance upgrade, then some uprated bulbs - Philips Xtreme or Osram Nightbreakers are both popular and can be had for under £30.
You say for halogen lights on a D3 the easiest upgrade is to bi xenon lights. What modifications are required. I'm guessing they don't just plug in and work outright. Or do theyIf it moves and it shouldn't duct tape it, if it doesn't move and it should walk away and get a big hammer

Ps I have zero electronics intelligence I had a D1 for many years and I found nothing a bit of wire and a fuse couldn't solveIf it moves and it shouldn't duct tape it, if it doesn't move and it should walk away and get a big hammer

Me and electricity don't see eye to eye, I once cut through the cooker cable with pliers
I seem to remember it's just to stop the flickering on start up, anyone with an iid tool can set it for you
As said, the detango and night breakers make a big difference, only my opinion though D3 57 xs Stornaway grey

Now fitted
Wow what a difference these osram nightbreakers are just probably the best upgrade I've seen, 27 quid and it's way better light output massive difference at night and I'm doing a lot of motorways and country lanes this is gonna be so much better.
I can recommend them to anyone who doesn't want to spend 300 quid on a set of xenons
