Arrggh - wheel getting hot again!!

So I posted earlier today about my D4 being supposedly sorted by the dealer due to a rear wheel getting hot when driving. They told me they had changed the pads and discs and serviced the brakes.

Drove it home in the dark so couldn't eyeball the work but when I got out it smelled hot, low and behold the same issue, one disc getting very hot and all other 3 are normal Evil or Very Mad not only that but the discs have not been changed, just the pads.

So I'm back to square one, am I right in thinking that if the disc surface is getting really hot but the drum part itself seems ok that it is almost certainly down to a binding calliper?

CFB, it is unfortunate that they did not diagnose the calliper initially but perhaps their missing that is not too extreme.

I have personally had the calliper issue twice (1 each side) over a total of 100,000 miles, others have not had it at all.

Worth another pop in my opinion.

This is my first D4 and it is not being sold anytime soon, kept my last car 3 years I'll have you know Smile

As for D3's, I had one or two back in the heady days of life as a salesman with a very generous car allowance Whistle Alas those days are gone and it's all my hard earned NHS wages paying for it.

Is there anything significant about a BX plate?

When seen on a LR it is likely that it originated as a Military or Diplomatic sale, its a factory reg and possibly for export purposes for people working abroad. They supply UK spec ones on the whole as they nearly always end up back here anyhow due to the strong market.

Two dealers specialise in this, Peterborough and Salisbury - and you will often see a high number of nearly new and ex demos with B series plates on their stock Thumbs Up

oh, and generally speaking, other breeds of B plate are standard old Brum of course!

Can anyone advise if their rear brakes and wheels get warm in normal use?

Copley have offered to take it back in again but are saying it is quite normal to get warm in use but that it should be even across left and right, seems reasonable but my front brakes and wheels are nearly always cold after a journey, I don't touch the discs obviously but can feel the wheel and any radiating heat is quite obvious at the affected NSR one .
