Germany 2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Manual Santorini BlackDiscovery 3
"emergency program" > then self-healing

Hello,

I am very satisfied with my "new" Disco 3, but once a week, there is a strange problem.

1. I start the motor - system check is OK
2. I release the hand brake - still everything OK
3. I put a gear in (manual, last time it was reverse, can't say if it is always reverse when I got the problem): motor failure >> emergeny program etc. pp

Switch off the motor and waiting a few minutes won't change the problem. But when I am driving in emergency program (awful driving) and parking the car - after about 30 minutes of parking, the car healed himself - and everything is fine.

Unfortunately, there are no failure codes deposited in the system.

About the Disco:
- 01/2008
- 2,7 liter TDV6
- Manual
- 155.000 kilometers

I hope that you can give me some input that I can give to my garage.

Many thanks in advance!

P.S. Sorry for my English... Wink

A simple stop and restart doesn't reset the systems. The car needs to go to sleep for this. Hence you waiting longer before a restart works. When you turn off the engine and lock the car, the red P (park brake) symbol stays on until the car system goes to sleep.

It sounds to me like an electrical issue. I presume from what you have told us you are not experiencing any other issues like low battery, slow turnover at starting so that should rule out the battery. But check the battery cables are connected tight to the battery and the earth (-ve) is also connected firming to the vehicle/motor. Other than that I'm afraid you'll need to await the help of someone more technically/mechanically aware to come along and part with their wisdom.

Auserdem, euer Englisch ist 1000 mal besser als das Deutsch der Englischen Mitglieder Laughing alles gute und viel Glück hiermit.

@MrH
Vielen Dank! Dein Deutsch ist sehr gut! Thumbs Up

And thanks for your help! I got the battery on my schedule, but until now I did not manage to take care about it.

Your hint makes sense - a low battery causes the system error. While driving, the battery is getting loaded and - tadaaa - the car is "healed" the next time I start it.

I just put on my battery charger (ctek) and it shows just about 2 points out of 8. So the battery was on a low level - and I just came back from a drive about 70 km, so the battery was already a little bit loaded.

Hopefully the battery is fine tomorrow, otherwise I must get a new one.

I will get back...

Thanks!

Danke, aber mein Deutsch sollte eigentlich besser sein da ich Deutsch bin, ich wohne aber seit 1974 auf der Affeninsel.

Hopefully you'll get it sorted soon. Thumbs Up

Wink Thumbs Up

Today I checked the battery level: 7 from 8 points, that should be ok. Started very good and I got the feeling that the car is moving smoother when having low rpm.

Will keep you informed, thanks for the help

If you are only doing short journey every day I would, especially with the cold weather at the moment, recharge the battery every 2nd weekend.
