It' s in my hand book .That's the first thing I looked for when I collected my car, it's no good finding battery want's changing if you don't know how
You drive a D4, so the rechargeable key for the D3 is unlikely to feature in your handbook.
Thanks for the roll-eyes.
Very sorry , I missed the d3 , but don't quite understand why any car manufacturer would put a rechargeable battery in a key fob. Regards Denis.
Because it charges through hall effect when in the ignition. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

The robustness of the original sealed D3 key design is legendary. Mine was quite happy on a non-bio cotton wash with a 1200rpm spin-speed….Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

What pointed you towards a flat battery? Did you get the warning on the dash?
If not it could be the wire splice that runs down the floor by the front passenger door. Lots of info on the site about that issue. Sometimes it's not the wiring or the battery, but the key unit itself just gives in. I had this, ordered and paired by local indy and has been 100% ever since and that was over 2 years ago Discovery 4 HSE

The spare working means the wiring is ok, which is good because sorting through that lot can be a bit of a ball ache!! Probably means the key itself has just given up the ghost.Discovery 4 HSE
