Broken down on M5
Driving back from Devon, and suddenly lose power, I managed to get to the hard shoulder, I have the check engine light on, I plugged in the iid tool but it doesn't show any faults.
The car turns over but will not start, any ideas while I wait to be rescued?

What is your fuel status ?
Any engine hesitation prior to failure?
Good luck?2007 D3 HSE Artic Frost Silverish

Hi, half a tank of fuel, I filled it up on Monday, no signs of anything bad until I realised that I had no power, got to the hard shoulder and then the engine stopped. I am just so glad we made to the hard shoulder, the weather is terrible, we can't sit outside the car as we would freeze to death so we are both strapped in the front with me watching the rear, only had the bloody thing a few days, the only thing that has been happening is when is when I first start it, it runs rough for a few seconds and grey/white smoke litterly for a second or two, after that it was running as smooth as nut. I was going to get it. Hacked out when we got back.

Sorry nothing comes to mind especially with no faults showing up
Hope you get sorted
White smoke can often be associated with a split turbo intercooler hose but usually under load and with an associated loss of power2007 D3 HSE Artic Frost Silverish

My money is on the in tank pump has given up.
Check the schrader valve for fuel flow, if there's nowt getting through, I'd check the in tank pump as it causes the sudden loss of power you describe.
Good luck, I hope you get recovered quickly. Mods:

One or more injectors, is my bet.
Certainly fuel related if white smoke.

Had similar some time back and the LPFP (in tank) had expired.
There were fault codes however indicating low fuel rail pressure.I see no ships........

Battery shouldn't be flat from having the lights on for so long. There's something else afoot if that's the case.
There is a method which involves a cable or something under the gear selector. I drive a manual so best wait until one of the auto boys turns up.

I think so. You remove the small trim piece just behind the park brake release lever and there is a white nylon tab that you can see which you lift up, that allows you out of park without power I believe.

This is starting to sound like alternator failure taking the battery with it. Mods:

^^^ Agreed. Lights alone should not take out a D3 battery.
