yawlboy, you need to try the Gorey bypass. Absolute bliss on road tyres - one of the quietest surfaces in Ireland (and the MPG seems to rise a good bit on it too!), but seems to magnify the noise on AT2s (and I presume MTRs as well)! IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

Got 27.1mpg on the MTR's with the car loaded for 50% of that time and was going at 70+ for a lot of that too. Did get around 29 the last long UK trip with road tyres but not as heavily loaded.
BK, I was only comparing the roads around here in Cork/Waterford with a the B roads I did yesterday and today in Wales. They seemed to be a lot better over there - but perhaps they were all recently renewed.
I haven't been up your way in a while I tend to go Carrig-on-suir, Kilkenny, Carlow when I am going to Dublin. 1993 Defender 110 300tdi - many mods

It's strange the difference various surfaces make.
Another example; the N25 between Wexford and New Ross, while visibly smooth, and is quite new (5 years in parts) gives me the worst MPG and higher road noise on road tyres than most other roads around the area. IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
