A LANDROVER THING

Not a question for one just something to say.

A few years ago now I had a V8 series 2.. One day coming back from Brighton to Southampton I had a lot of smoke or steam coming from under the bonnet.. I pulled into a service station, opened the bonnet and just looked at the steam without any real idea of what I was going to do.

Then a guy driving past in a Defender 90 beeped, braked quite hard then reversed into the garage via the exit and parked next to me.

He then proceeded to get his toolbox out and patch up a split radiator hose, gave me a few bottles of water then refused to take any money or allow me to buy him some beers.

I can't imagine this happening with any other brand of car so it must be a landrover thing.

This is replicated in this forum, it is very active and answers are never that far away.
... I've been on Audi and Volvo forums and you'd might as well not bother asking sometimes.

Thanks guys.
New D3 Owner.. every day it starts is a bonus but any bongs or beeps are heart-stopping.

It is a landrover thing

I have also noticed posts on other car forums sometimes go unanswered.
Trying to find info on wifes audi was like getting blood out of a stone, but there are one or two good guys who have the info, but as theres so many asking I think they kind of give up!
You can tell the question asker has not done any research or searching at all and expects the answers on a plate.

In my case seven years, but lots of former LRs back to a Classic 3.5 Manual without PAS!

That's why I treasure the friendship of many I have met here, and why we all look out for each other.

Its not just Landrover owners.

Before the D4 I was a TVR owner (2 different cars) for total of about 15 years. I would say that there is a similar camaraderie between owners, always someone willing to help out.

I was once parked in a lay-by making a phone call on dual carriageway. Within a few mins a fellow TVR owner had slammed the anchors on (probably a big dangerously if I am honest) and pulled into the lay-by to check if I needed any help - quick thanks and he was off.

Still got mine after 9 1/2 years coz it's too much effort to get it to "normal" to sell it, then I've got to get the replacement modded up. Too much like hard work. Whistle

Got mine in the banking crash, economy goes to hell in a hand cart events of 2008. Looking back I suspect the seller was worried about getting caught with an 18 month oid car he thought he'd never sell. Ignoring tax and servicing costs one of the least expensive cars I have owned (per year). Like others this forum has been a big help providing the likes of 10forcash and Geoff.

I think it's characterful cars that have this camaraderie, actually. LRfor sure, and TVR have been mentioned, but also true for Lotus - had an old lady stop half way across a pedestrian crossing, lift her stick and waggle it at my Elise, saying "nice car, dearie" Laughing
