FUAL FLAP STICKER

My new hobby seems to be going to the petrol station lately.

This evening I noticed a yellow sticker on the inside of the fuel flap.
It has a picture of an oil can and 1000k / 600 miles.
It says to refer to the handbook but I've had a look through and couldn't find any reference to it.

I think I may remember reading something months ago about adding two.stroke oil to the diesel.
Is it advised to add oil to the diesel.?

Personally, no. But lots do.

Some claim it clogs up the FBH; Others claim that it lubricates the fuel supply. I suspect it doesn't do your injectors much good, long term, since it has been suggested that it marginally increases the combustion temperature.

The sticker acts merely as a reminder to check the engine oil level every so often (1000 km/600 miles). Nothing to do with adding 2SO (which Land Rover do not advocate). Thumbs Up

But what the sticker is telling you, afaik, is to check the oil levels every 1000m

It's just a reminder to check your oil level every 600 miles. No good on the oil filler cap if you don't open the bonnet often.

Placed on the fuel cap because you have to open that bit!!!

Thanks Steve for yet another quick reply,
The sticker is kind of obvious when you look at it.

I'm not too keen on the idea of adding oil.

I am a big believer though of using BP Ultimate or Shell V-Power diesel (or I'm susceptible to marketing) Rolling Eyes

I use BP when in the uk pretty much exclusively and occasionally the "good" stuff and even after a few tank fulls can't say I've noticed any difference what so ever.

I always use 'ultimate' or 'V power nitro' (or whatever its called now)...... 'normal' Esso though seems as good. Not topped up with this fuel when using a courtesy Discovery - and I'm convinced the more expensive stuff makes the engine a lot quieter ... I never hear any engine diesel 'rattle' in mine but do in others with 'normal' fuel.

Not sure how it affects fuel consumption although the courtesy cars show about 25/7 mpg and mine 31/2 mpg - although this will, of course, be due more to driving style in a courtesy car I guess.

It may all be in the mind though....... 8)

Sorry - OT; but...

To reduce confusion, maybe the abbreviation for 'mile' could be 'mi'. Especially in any sentence that has a reference to kilometres (km) otherwise those that use the metric version will be more confused than an Aussie who buys tyres in metric/imperial measurements.

Just my 2 bob's worth or 2 cents worth depending who is your weights and measures governing body.

PS - I see that the original poster's photo shows that Land Rover had the sense to display both 'km' and 'miles' to reduce ANY confusion.

Agree, I thought this was confusing after I had posted. 600m is a very short interval Whistle

How reliable is the dashboard oil indicator ?
I have done 8k in mine and check the dashboard read out regularly and it hasn't budged from OK so I was surprised that I didn't need to top up before now.
K as in thousands of miles - not K as in kilometres Wink

My D4 (2013) needed a top up between new and first service, also between 1st and 2nd service. Non needed since, now on 55k.

I forgot to add, my post refers to a March 2015 new Discovery SE Tec.
I would have expected to have had to top up at least at the couple of thou from new after settling in.

In 187k I've never needed to top mine up between services. Thumbs Up

I've also run it mainly on supermarket and Esso normal and it runs just fine. When I did a trial with Shell Ultimate it made no difference to mpg or performance so just went back to normal. My injectors are all original and are just fine so supermarket fuel must be ok. Thumbs Up
