First MOT for me and my Disco 3 a few questions

This is the first MOT for me with the Disco 3 she runs sweet and doesn't have any knocking etc but both front fogs are badly misted up but both work could this be a problem also it has the egrs and all pipework removed by previous owner could this be an issue and the near side rear air bag protective cover is damaged and I haven't got time to replace in time. Also if there are any issues I should look for in advance I'm lucky I have used the same garage for 20 years for all MOTs and they are spot on.

Definitely no need to worry on the first two counts, and I wouldn't think so on the third either. Thumbs Up

Could be reading this wrong, so sorry if I am, but I would want to know any faults and it fail then pass because the garage is OK Thumbs Up

My garage has always been above board any problems they will let me take away and fix plus will fix the small things on the day they are spot on and very helpful and trustworthy all I meant was if there is a problem they are flexible about letting me sort it out within reason

One thing on MOT's that people don't know is if you take your car in early for the test and it fails, if you then drive it away your insurance is voyd as your knowingly drive a defective car on the road..

Rubbish.
It still has a valid MoT, and even having no valid MoT won't invalidate Third Party Liability anyway.

If the car was un-roadworthy the test center wouldn't let you drive away anyway, but a blown headlight bulb (for example) will not invalidate your insurance, whether it is spotted by an MoT tester, a policeman or your wife!

Some insurers do have a "the vehicle must be in a roadworthy condition" clause, consequentially they could remove all but third party cover, if you drove a vehicle after a failed mot.

I think you'll find that since MoT records were computerised any car submitted for test within the 1 month prior to it running out & not passing gets recorded as a fail & the old MoT is no longer valid.

The old paper MoT certificates were valid to the date on them & I remember well an old work colleague who used to buy cheap second hand cars with 12 months MoT, keep them 6 months then put them in for MoT. If the car passed he kept it another 6 months & sold it with 6 months MoT. If it failed he sold it asap with 6 months MoT. Either way he invariably sold the car for what he paid for it Thumbs Up

There is some amount of misinformation and scaremongering on this site at times. Words like SOME and THEY COULD, don't help anybody.

Rubbish.

https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/after-the-test

"Driving a vehicle that’s failed

You can take your vehicle away if your MOT certificate is still valid."

Valid till date is still on the new certificates. It may be recorded that it failed a test, but it doesn't invalidate a valid certificate.

If you passed a test one week and went for another test a week later and failed for a blown light bulb, do you think the test certificate issued the previous week would be invalid?

How the heck is that misinformation, its a fact some insurers have that clause therefore it suggests you should check the wording of your policy before assuming you are fully cover driving a vehicle that has failed an Mot, even if your existing one is still valid.

And the "could" is because not all fails necessarily make the vehicle unroadworthy, i.e failed emissions test, misplaced number plate letters etc.

I suppose ( Whistle ) it depends on the definition of road worthy...

I guess the insurers could claim you've breached the construction and use regulations for misplaced number plate letters....

Mogwyth,

Nobody is talking about using un-roadworthy vehicles on the road.

If it was un-usable on the road then a MoT test center wouldn't let you drive it away.
