First 'Driving' Issue with my 5 month old MY16...? |
|
Car was just about warmed up.... doing about 30 mph, put foot down to overtake and instead of leaping forward it hesitated and went into what I can only describe as a 'limp mode' for a few of seconds - enough to make me have to drop back - a bit hairy!! .....
No 'bong noises' or other warnings came up .... and seemed to drive OK after that ... first time its happened and has done around 3,000 miles. Anyone had similar?
Has made me wary for sure - felt more like engine hesitation rather than gearbox selection but will use the flappy paddles for any similar manoeuvre in future (if I remember) just in case? 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Did it feel like the drive was slipping? Ive got a random issue thats occurred twice in standing traffic and once during an overtake manoeuvre where I've accelerated and drive has not corresponded it feels like somethings slipping I have to back off then boot it and it gets going.
Booked in 2nd week jan for troubleshooting. MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

On a quiet road with no traffic I would carry out a series of tests to see if it does it again.
Boot it hard in all sorts of situations - it should handle it fine, anything else and there is a problem. Stew,

Thanks RDR and Sloss....
Just come back from doing just that - took it out for a good run in this horrendous weather - flooded roads everywhere (Cornwall) ..... booted it hard in as many situations as I could and couldn't replicate it .... (sort of what happens when trying to replicate a fault with a LR mechanic with you - doesn't do it of course )
So will keep an eye on it of course.
On a slight aside - stuck a couple of bits of self-amalgamating tape on the end tabs of the front towing eye cover yesterday ...... still in place at the moment! 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Maybe the car was protecting itself? Try it again under similar circumstances

Have you got access to Nanocom or IID?
A fault code has hopefully been logged which would shed some light Disco gone

just make sure your not catching the brake pedal with your foot whilst putting the gas on......it will confuse the computer.....do you want to stop or go

No - haven't got access to one of those fancy bits of kit - and would probably get myself in a right mess if I had one ..... I'm not technically proficient enough, I don't think, to operate one without terrifying myself and worrying about fault codes and readings.
I am hoping LR will check these logged fault codes at service time or earlier if needed (are fault codes logged, even if they don't show on the screen when it happens?) - do they do this automatically or does one have to ask.
Pretty certain my foot was well away from the brake pedal - I'm not one of those who drives using left foot braking .... no idea how anyone can do that as I've said before!
I'll try and duplicate when I get the chance ..... thanks chaps 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Mine has done it with trailer on before, no throttle reaction at all... Last about 20 seconds then fine!
In your situation I'd say car was cold. Mine will do it if driven like that in first minute or two

Hi Dannyson
I have a similar age car and I have had a similar experience twice now
As you say when car not quite warmed up - say quarter of a mile or so I have gone into restricted performance twice, no fault codes registered that I could find
After turning the car off and locking it and then starting again - both times it drove like nothing had ever happened
First time was about 1500 miles and second time was about 6000 miles

There has been some hesitations issues with both 6 and 8 speed Disco 4's, just not re acting to throttle input, no faults thrown up. Try the search function, though I find putting search parameters in google brings up better results from this site than its own search function
Being as yours is fairly new and low miles, it maybe the gearbox is still "learning" how to adapt to your driving. If you do something suddenly or different it does take a time to re act until it takes that into account. It must also take longer if more than 1 person drives it
Another thing that will confuse it is if you have big feet and touch the brake pedal when depressing the throttle.
Om my 6 speed 4 it was corrected with a new spring, but the hesitation was only from a standstill. D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

Interesting ....... I have been driving it a little more 'assertively' just recently, having read on here somewhere, that ex demo cars and the like always seem to drive better and be more reliable... not sure how true that is of course......
Anyway - maybe thats it - not used to being 'floored' when still a bit cold? 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

It's not good flooring a vehicle when cold anyway unless it's stolen or rented of course. Stew,

Ive had this exact same issue, floored it when i pulled out of a junction within a mile of my journey and lost all power for it to only pick up a second or two later, never had it again.
