Third party technology is there, yes, but a service hosted via the internet is a different matter. Others are using it, but that doesn't make it wise, or prove anything in the long term. While I'm not one for using the navigation, I do see the value of reliable traffic info greatly, but I think, as a more basic system, working to improve TMC would be better.

The reception issue, yes, useful at present. It's much shows what I mean though - big antenna=simple, reliable, potentially long half life; WiFi system=complex, unreliable, probably short half life. The battery issue just needs the phone plugging in.

Thumbs Up

I've seen a great looking Sat Nav in one of the new Mercs, used Google street view so you could see exactly what land marks etc were around you.

LR need to get a better sat nav than what they fitted in the DS, I don't use sat nav but when I tried it, it took me weird and wonderful routes.

All this tech is great if LR can get it to work properly, my experience with the DS gives me doubts. Their new Incontrol touch system isn't exactly groundbreaking but it's cumbersome to use and a bit of a stretch for the driver. To get the blowers on the windscreen it was about 3 buttons to do the job of 1, press the climate menu, then windscreen and then exit the menu, not handy.

They need to make the D5 up to date without making it complicated to use.

Agreed that if they use the same system as in the DS it would be a backward step from the current MY15 system

My current D4 even lower spec is fine don't need any improvements perhaps standard leather for all levels D5 should be similar with more refined with less weight so that will improve and lastly perhaps better in quality that last longer.

For those with a LinkedIn account, it's really interesting to do a search for peoples work experience with say "Land Rover" or "L462".

For instance - this is listed under one member:

Exactly the sort of thing that drives me mad. I can't stand this thing of "de-cluttering" that's sweeping car manufacturers - it's just inconvenient for the user. Thumbs Up

I've thought about this before too. If LR want to make their vehicles more "premium", they could do something like adding leather as standard, with a rhetoric to the effect of "as a practical vehicle, all models now have leather seats at a minimal, cost price to the user". That sort of action would be great IMO. Thumbs Up

Charging mat on the dash as well that auto charges the battery, simply place your phone on the non slip mat &?away you go.

I'd like to have seen some form of clip on 'wall' to connect to top & bottom of tailgate when open, just giving a bit more weather protection to the boot.

Not tech but common sense; underside of car to loose the silly holes that get clogged with crap

Rear lad light to in lip & use as a torch.

Option to waterproof the electrics

Automatic tyre inflation.

we are being forced to fit central tyre inflation (CTI) systems to our forest going timber trucks by the forestry commission.
basic inflation system (ie inflates tyre in event of a puncture) costs about £1500 if factory fitted on a new trailer
full cti system (tyre pressures can be adjusted from drivers seat 50-120 psi) for off road work retro fit can be as much as £12000 for full set up lorry and trailer
