"tayaste"]Your still going to have to look for it. Assuming you want to remove it.[/quote] What I ment by was there a drain plug in the sump, was if yes then it will save me removing the engine under tray just to find out. Make no mistake ,I will find it now I know its there. been servicing my cars for over fifty years , but this one is the only one to have the oil removed from the top . I know that there is not a lot of DIY that can be done on these toys but I can at least change oil and filter more than l/r specs. Many thanks every one for the info.

You may need to apply some heat to a couple of the captive nuts on the sump plate, depending on how old your car is. Mine had had 3 main dealer services without the metal plate being removed so by service 4 some assistance was needed to encourage the bolts to let go D4 GS 12MY
Well worth reading. I have a friend who works at l/r dealers, I will have a word to ask if he thinks it's worth extra oil changes, the car will do no more than 5,000 miles a year , I have always changed oil and filters twice a year , this one is the first with service indicators, all the other land rovers I have owned , oil out ,new oil and filters in, job done many thanks.

When I asked, just recently, for my MY16 - they said its pointless .... its not meant to be changed and so shouldn't be...... or words to that effect.... How things have changed ........!!2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

I'm very slowly starting to get to grips with modern car technology, there is more than enough new stuff on this one, far more than I ever wanted. It's as if the car is in control most of the time ,but great car to drive and tow with. Happy new year every one.
