Disco 4 65 Plate External Temperature sensor issues.

Just picked my MY2016 Disco HSE - usual list of little faults - Tailgate won't shut, bonnet won't shut, side protection strips peeling off etc. It is my fifth Disco so I'm used to this and its all fairly minor.

Main issue is the Dashboard Air Temperature Readout. It is ok when the car is cold, ok ish when driving slowly (20 to 30mph) but starts over reading by up to 4 degrees when you go a bit faster. This is affecting the Climate Control when in Auto. You need a jumper on when driving as it is bitterly cold unless the temp is set to the same or above the Dash reading. There doesn't seem to be any finesse in it. All my previous ones were agricultural in response but at least they modulated. This one just blows arctic air all the time - not what you need in a Scottish summer.

Any one know where the Dash gets its temperature from? It looks more like something is blocking the airflow over the sensor than a faulty sensor but as there are lots of sensors on the car I don't know what other effects a wrong reading might trigger.

It is going in to the dealers tomorrow for various things (fit the mud-flaps that they didn't have, change the towing electrics for the type I asked for, not the one they fitted etc) so I'd like to know more about the system before I get fed a load of horse manure about high humidity affecting the readout or some such.

Apart from all that it is preforming really well.

Graeme

I am slightly concerned about your faults on a new car! I pick up my first Discovery next week and it's costing a small fortune so had hoped the things you mention should have been sorted before it had left the factory…..

PS Just been told off by SWMBO for being mean. It'll be fine, honest. Though SWMBO is now saying "don't be mean, let home have a happy time for a few months". Wives eh, can't fire em. Thumbs Up

Au contraire, my MY14 has now done 22k and - apart from a tendency for the fuel level readout to be erratic when down to the last few litres - has been absolutely fault free Thumbs Up

(Just hope I haven't jinxed myself now Rolling with laughter )

Very Happy I picked up mine last Thursday, well happy, car is spot on, dealer had it properly PDI'd and presented it immaculately, can't fault the car but I was a tad apprehensive beforehand! Laughing

It'll be fine. It's just us peeps that hang onto old banger D3s that suffer from crap reliability. The new ones are fine. As long as the salesman hasn't said "these are a lot more reliable than the old ones". You just know that's dubious. Thumbs Up

Shocked ....swanseajack ..... I'm similar, have had Land Cruisers for the past 15+ years, hard as nails apart from a few issues (won't bore you with the detail...). Took out a HSE Lux in May and couldn't believe the ride and quietness of the engine.... and all the gizmos...?

But have been 'trembling in me boots' since placing the order back in May ..... LR are 'poor' for reliability according to WD..... I knew all this of course and skimmed this forum beforehand ....I was hoping things are improving and in the main it looks like they may be.... but all these 'minor niggles' on delivery Rolling Eyes .... what happened to Quality Assurance at the end of the assembly line and PDi at the dealer for goodness sake........

and Yes, .... I am afraid.... very afraid...... Smile ...... Big Cry But looking forward all the same.... Thumbs Up

I wouldn't be on my fifth Disco if I didn't rate them!

These issues are minor. The new one seems even smoother and quieter than my previous D4 and after a week touring the Western Isles I am very pleased with it.
