Fuel pressure issues or not?
Hi all,
just had a call from my brother there. he seems to be having an issue. when driving his 07 D3 with autobox, it goes into limp mode and an 'F' appears on the info display followed by all the usual bings and bongs and goes into limp mode. Pull over & switch off and away he goes again, happens intermittently. might happen today and might not happen tomorrow type thing. Has 235k km's on the clock. took it to a LR Dealer and had it plugged in, they say it relates to fuel pressure, but he had the HPFP recall done way back when and replaced the fuel filter only the other day, so just looking for second opinion really. Has any one experienced this before. would i be right in saying that a failed fuel pump is rarely seen on the D3, even though it was the bearings that were recalled.
any feed back or similar experience would be appreciated.
the limp home mode is not related to steering angle sensor.

Hi,
After reading a lot of threads from this site, i've seen that a few people have experienced problems like you describe with using non genuine fuel filters, so this may be worth checking.
I think the non genuine filters starve the engine of fuel when under high load, ie when towing up long hills on full throttle etc.

well i spoke to the brother and it was a genuine LR filter that was put into it only on Monday. also some sensor was replaced on the autobox, but the LR dealer that hooked up to it on tuesday evening told him that the problem was low fuel pressure! either he didnt ask the right questions or LR trying to lead him down a path, but if some one told him it was a fuel pressure problem, surely they can tell him the cause

Might be worth looking at the condition of the MAP sensor. Easy & free to clean

Pump and filter are In the fuel tank not much of a job to drop the tank, just a bit fiddly getting the pump out,you can check the pressure first by putting a gauge on the valve in the engine bay the one you use to bleed the system after fitting a fuel filter, i think it should read around 7psi on tick over,i noticed my pump filter was clogging up as when i turn the ignition on i could hear the pump running very loudly like there was no fuel in the tank .
So if you haven't got a noisy pump when you turn the ignition on i would check the pressure before hand plus it might not be anything to do with it but worth a look if your struggling Wanted D4s non runners pm for competitive price.

Just to bump this thread. brothers D3 is at a LR main dealer for the last 3 weeks. they didnt believe him that the dash was lighting up and lower suspension, so one of techies had it last weekend and while driving got the fault to occur, with transmission fault appearing and lowering into limp mode etc.. so took it back to the work shop and plugged it in. No Fault appeared on the computer.
1. is it possible for a fault like that to appear and not to be stored in the ECU?
2. Because no fault appeared they have failed to even look at the dam thing, take investigation further, citing that they were too busy. what a bunch of ers! after 3 weeks in the garage still none the wiser.
They clearly are not interested in touching it, any one any recommendations. Do auto box have xy sensors? i know i have read about them going out of calibration?

I had similar symptoms as your brother as well as an increasing reluctance to start - I was having to perform a prime (as described by TFC) on first start. I had also fitted a new LR fuel filter.
I suspected the in-tank pump was going - eventually it gave up the ghost completely on the motorway.
You can replace just the pump - ring Nick (TLO) at Yeovil for best price (I think they're around £525 + VAT) and you'll need a seal kit (around £30 + VAT).I see no ships........

I think, especially in winter, start with the battery / alternator, check that voltages are as they should be. If the voltage isnt fully there all sorts of wierd complications can occur. Even test the break light connections ? Easiest to do first and after that you know you can more or less trust (caveat lector) any fault codes, then as the others suggest, fuel filters / pumps working your way up to EGRs Turbos and injectors. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

cheers guys. will forward on all suggestions to him and can be checking them himself.
Did anybody ever get to the bottom of this? I ask because my 2008 MY Disco 3 has EXACTLY the same issue and is currently in the garage to be investigated. The fuel filter has been changed but the problem returned within a few days. The diagnostic report suggests there is a fuel pressure problem but these have been checked twice and are normal. Any help really welcome!

Mine having similar issues. Lower suspension, engine system fault, HDC not available etc.
Had 3 new filters
I replaced in tank pump with a cheap one.
Had a new genuine LR in tank pump
Had 2 new EGR valves on holiday (told them that wasn't the problem....)
Had lower suspension arms, new tyres, 4 wheel alignment as they thought steering angle sensor may be sad.
