I'm not a techie and it took me 30 mins, 75% of which was getting the old arm off!
Take off the cap
Undo nut
Note rough position of wiper on windscreen
Next bit is the trickiest
Gently wriggle off the old arm, there's teeth on the wiper motor sprocket thing which the nut bites it onto
Attach wiper to new arm
Position new arm on sprocket
Push down firmly so the wiper is in the same place as noted before
Tighten nut, keeping an eye on windscreen position
Also make sure wiper arm is square on sprocket
Tighten nut a bit more
Test wiper sweeps and returns to correct position not fouling window a pillar or other wiper blade
Final tighten of nut
Replace cap
Job done

Sounds not too bad, many thanks. WD40 to help get the old arm off?

Little bit of penetrative spray helped but other than that just be firm when wriggling the arm off, go one way then the next then up and down and it should come off

I also gave the teeth on the sprocket a bit of a clean before putting the new arm on, you'll see what I mean

When you take the old one off make sure you wriggle it by holding near the sprocket/base of the arm, sounds obvious but you don't want a broken motor unit through using too much leverage with the whole wiper arm.

Looking to get one of those puller gizmos that CFB suggested on his thread. That should keep the pull nice and straight.

Aye these pullers make it a doddle, arm pops off and no strain on the spindle etc.
Also used it to level my rear wiper as it wasn't parking completely horizontal and I am a bit fussy like that (although found that I may need a rear arm soon as the spindle has worn the grooves away in the arm)

I also got one of these, arrived today, can I just clarify though, that there appear to be no splines in the attachment hole on the arm, just a taper. Is this correct? Assuming splines on the spindle maybe bite into the softish metal when you tighten the nut ( with the arm in the right place ). Or is this why they are cheap ? D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

From what I recall from fitting one several months ago, the arm seems to cut its own as you scerew down the nut.

Correct, new grooves created as you tighten the nut.
