I am for keeping them separate, I will never post anything on this forum about my D5 when it arrives this week.
There are too many people who just have to have a go, it is not banter.

EVERY ONE has the right to have an opinion, but ....
NO ONE has the right to try and ram that opinion down someone else's throat.
Sadly all too prevelant with the anti D5 feeling IMO
I don't even bother to read the threads anymore, because it's all just bickering!...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Sorry not having a go at the D5 at all or anyone who got one or ordered one.
As a consumer the question I asked myself was why doesn't it appeal to me.

I agree with Moo.
I'm still not decided whether I'll be getting a D5 ...I've not completely written it off but for now I'm keeping my options within the JLR range open.
One thing is for sure ....that no matter how much I remember the joy of my first D2 ..the sheer thrill of my first D3 and all the subsequent D's since, I'll never look back.
If those with swathing negative opinions on where JLR are going think that they are onto something valid then I'm sorry but you just need to look at the sales figures and look at the investment value to know that such opinions are irrelevant. Move on.
They are not in the business of providing niche vehicles anymore ...they had to de-polarize and boy have they done it right ...I see a brand that has grown immeasurably since 2008, has one of the most exciting range of motors in the industry and is building volume in order to keep investing and presenting us with innovation.

I do, and I don't mind admitting that. Not the right time for a young man with three children though!

Personally, I feel the anti D5 sentiment is made worse by the vehement support of it, and those fans/owners being unwilling to accept other views. .
Buy it don't buy it, I don't really care, I know my money will sadly go elsewhere, but please don't try to force me into liking it, even in this thread it speaks of ignorance for those that don't like it.
Having viewed one twice, I have made my own mind up, I couldn't get comfortable behind the wheel and ultimately the looks rule it out for me, so much so that I declined to test drive it.
If that is ignorance then so be it.Andy

And, sir, that is fine with me.
What I cannot stomach is the embedded dislike based upon what others have said. The opposite of ignorance is experience.

Right, time for my opinions..
I would obviously like to see D5 discussion predominantly on DISCO5.CO.UK, rather than here. However the section exists here for D5 discussion by DISCO3/4 members and I think it is OK that it remains here.
That said, I don't really appreciate the tone that many members have been taking with each other, at the end of the day it is only a car - is it really worth getting so upset or posting to upset others about? That might be acceptable on other forums or social media but you all know that's not how it works on here.
You might not like the D5 or you might not be in a position to move to one yet but that doesn't exempt you from being courteous, friendly and constructive. I don't want this forum to become one where some members troll others and exploit differences to cause friction.
It doesn't happen between members with D3 and D4s, or D4 owners pre/post facelift. So there is no valid reason at all for it to happen because of the D5. If you don't have anything constructive to say, don't say it. If the D5 is not for you, stay out of the D5 section - exclude it from your "New Posts" list in your Profile settings if you so wish.
It stops now. If you see it going on, report it and it will be dealt with by me, Gareth or DG.
Everyone taking part on this forum knows the expected standard of discussion.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

It seems a shame to seperate them. At the end of the day iit s a Discovery. Moving between different sites is a pain and it would be nice to see how people are getting on with them and letting them share their experiences.
It would be sad to think that seperation is based around the diverse views on the D5 as a replacement for the D3/4.

I like the idea of everyone being under the same roof rather than different websites for Discovery model changes. Indeed, in my ideal world all of Martin's LR sites would be hosted under one unified website.

There have been many subjects on this forum that have polarised opinion, Scottish independence & Brexit for example. They became quite heated at times I seem to remember but It always dies down in the end and folk carry on chatting to each other and so this D5 subject will calm down.
