Transmission rumble gone after transfer box oil change...

Recently I had noticed a low level 'grumble', a bit like the engine was labouring in the wrong gear, only seemed to occur at low speed (around 30mph) and a slight incline. Was coming from the transmission for sure and felt like we should be in a higher gear, accelerating slightly usually forced a gear shift and grumble gone. Totally different to the torque converter judder that was cured by a gearbox flush.

Anyway this weekend I have changed the differential and transfer box fluids and guess what, grumble has gone and I cannot induce it at all no matter how I try. So my guess is the transfer box fluid change probably did the trick, the stuff that came out was pretty horrible and I can't imagine was doing much good.

So, anybody have any thoughts as to why the fluid change could address this issue? I don't really understand how the transfer box works but if there is some sort of clutch mechanism in there then maybe that was struggling with the old fluid?

Karl

P.S. This little hand pump that I used to use to change gearbox oil on my Mariner outboard was perfect for changing the transfer box oil (and diff oils too) and at £6.95 it's a bargain, screws right onto the Land Rover 'special gearbox oil' bottle and makes for a mess free, easy job...http://www.force4.co.uk/department/brands/...iS52zZdGUk

Unusual indeed...a cheap accessory to allow you to pump in overpriced oil easily... Thumbs Up

I saw in island 4x4 the other day they seem to be selling transfer box fluid, didnt ask price as I did mine a few months ago.

I spent 200 quid in the chandlers yesterday, seacocks and hull fittings, cant wait to fit them Shocked
