DISCO3 Engine Comparisons

Hello from Downunder, Is the 2.7 V6 TD fitted in a 2012 Disco4 compatible to my 2008 Disco3 ??
My engine has to be replaced (Timing belt drive pulley loose and timing off-set 45deg) and I am chasing a motor for a dealer to install. I am home now and a good supply of Happy Pills Big Cry Big Cry Bow down Bow down

I thought that by 2012 all aussie D4s were the 3.0TDV6 (hi power and low power versions).

Irrespective though, the base engines will fit - a later 2.7 or a 3.0 with your old 2.7 ancillaries (turbo etc).

If you need a new engine go for a Ford Territory 2.7 TDV6 - half the price of the LR product, the same engine - again just move your current engine ancillaries across as necessary though much of the Territory stuff is the same.

Some early D4s had 2.7 engines. Yes earlier ones will fit but as Garry said Ford Terrorist engine is the way to go. Thumbs Up

Were the belts changed before the pulley came loose? Like how did the pulley come loose?

Don, Do you work in South Penrith now? Not New Malden?

Found an Engine and Component Failure Identified

I have managed to get my hands on a new EU4 TD 2.7 V6 for just under $10K
The root mode of failure was the collapse of the co-drive chain between the two cams on the passenger side head causing the exhaust cam to lock solid and the momentum of engine and vehicle doing 80k ultimately moved the drive sprocket and subsequent instant damage to valves and pistons and probably the bottom end. I am led to believe that the drive sprocket is NOT Keyed to the crank like conventional applications but depends on the clamping forces of a locking thread system which is torqued when timing is set..

A NEW engine for under $10K is a good price - I assume from LRA.

I have not heard of the cam chain having issues before. How many kms did the old engine have on it?

There is a short chain at the back of the banks, has been mentioned here before.

Long Engine . No Turbo, Manifolds, Fuel Pump or Injectors. New in Crate from Triumph Rover Spares SAust.
There is history of Chains Breaking within the Landrover Business world, how many I don't know. Service people at Alto Artarmon pre-empted it as a possible cause. They were probably doing internal research. 189,000 km on the speedo. Timing belts and lube pump changed at 166,000 km in Dec 2014. Two weeks before failure we just got back from a 15,000 km trip around Aust with a 3300kg 26ft caravan in tow
