Steering wheel/air bag removal

Hi all

The leather on my D4s steering wheel is peeling badly and isn't nice to the touch any more,
I've ordered a new one from evay

I've looked at the powerfuluk video on how to remove them on the D3, is it the same procedure with the D4?
As long as the battery is disconnected the air bag shouldn't go off?
(I'm not the most mechanically minded..)

Many thanks

James

Do you need a specific tool to remove the airbag ? Was going to send mine off to be recovered ?

You can either buy one or make your own it's a simple small hook. Go on you tube there's plenty of vids on there . Thumbs Up

you can get one but most people just bend the last 10 mm of a coat hanger to 90 degrees and that will get the air bag off once your discovery has completley gone to sleep and the battery disconnected Thumbs Up

my top tip would be to press on the airbag as you pull the release clips as the springs are quite strong.

and the first time you do it theres a " im going to break something moment "

worth viewing a video so you can see and better understand the release mechanism as said above as it will help you visualize whats going on.

once youve done it a few times it will be simple .

Make sure when you refit it hasnt caught and slightly depressed the horn button as it scares the S@@T out of you if you have Laughing Laughing

Hi Mark

Many thanks for that, I'll make sure to have the powerful UK video on the phone when fitting Smile

Also many thanks for the tip with the horn button as well!

Sooooo, am I the only one who can't do this? Laughing

Admittedly, I have pieces of fruit in my fruit bowl that are more mechanically minded than me, but having spent an hour trying to find the bar you need to hook on to with a home made tool, I gave in and bought a specific tool from ebay in the hope that it'd make the job easier but nope, still can't find anything in there that I can hook on to!

So does anyone have any tips, where am I going wrong? I've watched the vids etc and seen the bit that I'm supposed to be feeling around for but still for the life of me I can't find anything in there no matter how much jiggling I do Shocked

From memory hook goes in horizontal and with a bit of fishing hooks behind the airbag.
Once hooked on you have to give it a good yank as it can be a bit stiff Thumbs Up
