Admittedly, I have pieces of fruit in my fruit bowl that are more mechanically minded than me, but having spent an hour trying to find the bar you need to hook on to with a home made tool, I gave in and bought a specific tool from ebay in the hope that it'd make the job easier but nope, still can't find anything in there that I can hook on to!
So does anyone have any tips, where am I going wrong? I've watched the vids etc and seen the bit that I'm supposed to be feeling around for but still for the life of me I can't find anything in there no matter how much jiggling I do
the hook goes towards u
i thought i was going to break the tool , which made me think i was doing it wrong
found it easier on the left hand side whilst pushing the air bag in , could see it slightly come forward
i bought the hook and it doesn't hook over the pin , so slightly opened it up

mark the spark wrote:my top tip would be to press on the airbag as you pull the release clips as the springs are quite strong.
and the first time you do it theres a " im going to break something moment "
worth viewing a video so you can see and better understand the release mechanism as said above as it will help you visualize whats going on.
once youve done it a few times it will be simple .
Make sure when you refit it hasnt caught and slightly depressed the horn button as it scares the S@@T out of you if you have
oh sorry mate i've just repeated what you've already said
agree i felt any minute now, something is going to break
did find though when i had the airbag out and could see it easier the tool didn't actually hook right over the pin

i suspect you have caught the release bar but its that stiff you think your onto something solid
the radius of the bent section at the end needs to be very tight and the return lip quite short
a metal coat hanger bent will do it first time i think i did it ,it was very tight but easy thereafter ( dont forget to press on the airbag on the side you are releasing )
see if you can find an image of the rear of the airbag to view the bar it will help MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car
